Hi,

I was using my WD Elements 1Tb to transfer some stuff from my desktop pc (custom built running windows 7 RC) to my laptop (MSI GX 620 running Windows 7 32-bit retail) i unplugged it from the laptop and plugged it into the desktop and copied my files over to it. then i plugged it back into the laptop, but it did not show up in my computer, it does show up in disk management, and the safely removed hardware icon came up. i then plugged it back into my desktop, and it shows up fine and i can copy files to and from it. it still doesnt show up on the laptop tho  i have tried different usb ports, have unplugged replugged in, rebooted laptop, and still nothing.

any ideas?

cheers, ali

When you look at the drive in Disc Management, did it have a drive letter assigned?
If not, assign one.
If it did, unplug All USB devices, goto Device Manager and Remove USB and reboot, windows should redetect the USB controller and re-install its drivers, re boot again, then try your External drive again...

it doesnt have a drive letter, but when i right click and go 'change drive letter and path' it comes up with and error 'the operation failed to complete because disk manager console view is not up to date' it then says to refresh it, but i still get the same error, will try reboot as it says.
