External HDD Temperatures

As I'm going back to uni in September, I'm planning on switching from a desktop to a laptop. Now at the moment, I run 2 HDDs, one for OS's, programs, etc. and another for media (music, videos etc.). Now with the size of laptop hardrives, I'm obviously not gonna store my media on that hard drive, so I'm gonna get an IDE Seagate Barracuda HDD and an Icy Box enclosure. Now I'm gonna be downloading practically 24/7 straight onto the external drive, and while I'm not concerned about the drive being on 24/7 (or should I be?), I am concerned about the heat. Will it overheat a lot or shutdown? And if so, are there any measures I can take to stop it doing this? (different accessories or anything like that?)

Thanks in advance.
