Sorry if this is posted in the wrong location.

I have a couple of WD black drives in my PC basically used for storage now that I have moved over to Samsung SSD's.

I was thinking of buying a couple of external usb drive caddies to put the these WD blacks into, however a friend has suggested getting hold of a NAS box with WiFi. (D Link was suggested) circa £50.

This is all NEW stuff to me, and doing a little Web Window Shopping it looks like I can buy a WD My Cloud with 2tb of storage for a tad over £100. I already have a WD My Book for back up and storage and have never had an issue with it, so I assume that the WD My Cloud would be of similar quality.

I also have a Smart TV so the option of Movies etc direct from a NAS set up sounds good, but it's not vital. Also the option of using the likes of uTorrent direct from a NAS set up without the Computer also sounds good.

ANY help, pro's / Con's would be very much appreciated, however I should point out I do not want to spend mega bucks.

Thanks in advance
Syd

Would not touch a WD My Cloud with a barge pole.

If you want a NAS then get a proper one. QNAP, Synology or Custom Build. You pay more but you get a resiliant product that works.

The cheap WD, Buffalo etc things are cheap for a reason. If you want dumb storage just get external HDDs or a caddy. If you want NAS with additional services buy a proper NAS.

Either one of these then ???

Synology DS213J 2 Bay Desktop NAS Enclosure
Synology DS214se 2 Bay Desktop NAS Enclosure

As Sin_Chase said if you are looking at getting a NAS I would go Synology, although perhaps a little more money than you are prepared to spend.

Used a couple of My Cloud for my smaller branch offices (1-2 people) and they didn't hold up most failed just over a year after they were installed with fairly light usage.

Are WB Black OK

I am going to go down the Synology route, however I anted to use my WD Black drives, does anyone see a problem with this?

No problem using WD BLK drives, but to be honest you'd be better off getting some Reds or even Greens if it's just for backup storage, the blacks are higher transfer rates and higher RPM but that inherently means more noise, greater power usage, higher chance of failure(compared to WD reds)

I use reds, not only are they MUCH cheaper £/GB but they also are specifically designed for storage and therefore whilst not being the fastest drives, they are resiliant and quiet/cheap

Example:
WD Reds 4TB £131.99(for now, on sale usually £150) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-408-WD&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=2611
WD Black 4TB £179.99(for now, on sale usually £200) - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-412-WD&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=1954

you really wouldn't see a massive difference in day to day usage when comparing transfer speeds, but definitely on power usage/noise/resiliancy
