just picked up a st320005exd101-rk seagate external usb drive.

its usb2 therefore painfully slow. silly question but can i open it up and find a sata2 drive inside and just do a normal hdd install?

will i loose any data i've put on the disk if i remove it from the caddy and install direct?

well just buthcered my £70 quid external drive to find i have this exact disk inside

hmm bare drive costs £130, drive with usb caddy a power supply and gubbins cost me £70.

oh and getting just a slight impovement over the usb caddy performance figures

usb average read speed 40MB/s on sata with my old ds3r 775 an average of 112 MB/s and 195MB/s burst speeds tempted to pick up another external tommorow and go for a raid0 array

have to disagree, mine came apart with no issues, just have to be careful to slide it out gently. currently dropped a 150gig drive into the caddy to make use of the caddy

went back together without any issues and its working fine with a 150gig drive.

now if i was a rotting sod i'd take it back to the catalogue shop and get a refund or exhange

only tape on mine was 3 small squares holding the wire for the activity light onto the drive

Also how easy was it to extract the drive from the caddy?

currently sitting in the living room watching talladega nights, i'll go pop the side off my rig and double check shortly

bit late now but it would have been so easy to do that on day of purchase.

walk back in an hour after buying it and state its faulty(after i've swapped the 2tb out for something else)

makes you wonder how often people do that
