I have an external USB 1TB Seagate drive which has worked for over a year, but it started playing up last week when it was very slow to access. Yesterday I plugged it in, hard drive light powers up, but nothing shown in devices. It also causes the pc to not work correctly for other USB devices, if it is plugged in.

Any way of getting this thing to work so I can recover my *BACKED UP* files

Tested on two different PC's

depending on what you are willing to do you could remove the drive from the case and try it connected internally but this will void any warranty if there is any left.

does it appear under disk manager?

2.5" or 3.5" drive?

2.5" can be fussy about getting enough power from the usb cable, and 3.5" the PSU could be on the way out.

As suggested if you open the usb enclosure, you can connect it internally, bypassing any power issues or issues with the USB interface.

Got it out of it's plastic casing, it's red hot too! It's a 2.5 drive and as of yet can't find away to get to the actual ports ( USB enclosure )

A bit of force and it's out :D

Nope this drive is ****, all that stuff backed up :(

Plugged it into a sata port and the computer wont detect any other hard drive at Bios. Took it out, booted up, plugged in while system was on. You hear that detection noise but nothing shows up in device manager or explorer. Also it makes a scratching sound at ear's distance.

Gutted, this is the last time I back stuff up to an external hd
