Extreme Trainsurfing

Few years back everyone was dragged into my school hall for an impromptu assembly. We were informed that the head of one of the sports teams had been killed doing exactly that to a tram, so I am of the opinion that its a pretty retarded thing to do regardless of the fact that he'd be dead in a year anyway.

I think Fox is correct - only 1 in 20 train drivers go back to doing the same work after killing someone - even if the person was commiting suicide... well thats what I heard on the radio after someone commited suicide just outside New Cross station... about a year ago.

I'm sorry, I don't buy it. Yes, train drivers are 'in control', but not to the extent they could possibly be at fault for killing someone in these circumstances. busman seems to speak from an informed position.

I'm a train driver and I most certainly did get affected quite badly when I killed someone who jumped in front of me at 90mph.It isn't just him he's affecting if he dies..if he wanted to do the daredevil thing then go bungee-jumping/extreme ironing/swimming with sharks etc.Seeing a dead body that's been hit by a train is not a pleasant thing at all.

That said,I did go back to work after 4 weeks, but needed a small amount of counselling. What a lot of people don't realise is train drivers must attend the inquest hearing and give evidence, meeting any family in thr process. It's very hard.

It is of course true that realistically they cannot blame themselves. However, many DO - it's a natural human reaction. They were driving, after all.

Pretty stupid thing to do.

There is a lad down here in South Wales who tried trainsurfing and fell off. It cost him an arm and a leg, literally. :(

He could have done other things.

It's sad that he died, but just 'cause he was dieing I don't think it gave him the right to to jump around on the trains & train lines.

There are a lot of negative things that could have happened from it.

That said I might always remember that German who used a suction cup to stick himself to the back of trains.

i dont agree..

train drivers know what can be waiting for them on train tracks etc. they know this.

I can't help but think it was reckless and stupid. He put himself and the public at risk while he persued an adrenaline rush.

I don't like speaking ill of the dead, fair enough a lot of people will remember him for what he did, but people really shouldn't really look up to or concider that kind of behaviour a cool way to get your rocks off.

edit:

It's bad enough trying to stop my gf's bro from immitating the "stunts" you see on television, trainsurfing is the last thing people need to be praising.
