Extremely hot CPU Temperatures with 4790K in games

Still gets pretty hot with the stock cooler in games :(. Seems to have settled around about 78 which is an improvement, then again this is with the overclock off. Saw similar drops with the overclock off with the cooler on. I'm going to order 2 SP fans to replace the AF cover ones today (Maybe this was a small issue? - some recommend SP fans for coolers), buy a replacement exhaust fan AF? and maybe put the 2 spare cover AF ones on the front as a replacement for the stock case intakes? Or should I buy some SP intake fans as it must travel through the dust filter and storage drive/stacks? Always feels pretty cool on that side of the case to be fair. If this doesn't make a shred of difference a new cooler will be ordered pronto.

Left the computer on over night (cooler back in with overclock back on) and my CPU idle temperature is 35, Motherboard 31, GPU 37, all 5 storage drives in the low thirties. Boot up is usually 25C when the comp has been off for a while. I had Steam running, Kaspersky, GeForce, AVG and now the browsers running to write this :).

Will look into defaulting/updating that BIOS, hopefully I don't ballz this up and have to format Windows lol. Gonna have to do a bit of reading on saving/backing up profiles before I do anything though.

By the way thanks for the fantastic support :).

If the garbage stock cooler is as doing as well as a 240mm radiator then there is something borked with the AIO. I am almost certain that the new fans won't make much difference. Back when Linustechtips was a good youtube channel they swapped all the default fans in the h440 for noctua nf-f12 (good static pressure) and temps dropped by like 3 degrees.

Also Kaspersky and AVG? Aren't they conflicting? I don't know many people who use antivirus anymore, let alone 2.

Should probably press ahead and buy a new cooler then. Will still buy some fans also, only ever used the stock front and rears. Added two on the cover, they were AF though not SP.

AVG is the AVG PC TuneUp 2017, not the anti-virus/firewall package. AVG User Interface always pops up on the taskbar. Tried disabling and also setting it to manual in services.msc but the software refuses to load then :p. Says something about AVG not being able to connect to the servers. Isnt that big of a deal anyway. I have 16GB RAM and all the options for live optimization, automatic maintenance have been turned off in the settings.

Personally I'd just grab the Phanteks PH-TC14PE and see how things go. The stock NZXT fans aren't too bad by any stretch - I only replaced mine cause I have radiators covering every intake so needed rad fans (FQ121WC) and I donated them to a friend who has been very pleased with them.

If all the AVG tuneup stuff is disabled, is it worth keeping it installed?

Hi

I'm interested in this. I have a 4790K and H100i with similar temps as you (no more than 80c max though). It's only clocked to 4.4 at default voltage. One thing I did observe, via Corsair Link is that there is a large delta between reported cpu temp and reported H100i temp, the H100i temp doesn't seem to get within 15-20c of the CPU temp. I have another H100i on a 6850k and under stress, the reported temp delta is usually about 5c.

I assumed this made it a prime delid candidate? Thermal paste of different flavours applied various times so I don't think it's that. Did you check your deltas in Link at all?

ETA - some pics, Red is 6850k, Blue is 4790k. I do think the deltas of 5c are also something to do with GPU output, hence that claim appearing rubbish! I ran CPUZ stress for 5 mins for a quick sample on both.

I am so bleeding dumb lol... This is what happens when you leave rookies in charge of putting together expensive goods... and to think its been setup this way for a good while. Heatsink, radiator still connected fine but I noticed something strange that I should have picked up on straight away :(. Not even sure if I should reveal the fault it's that embarrassing, brainfart moment? Definitely not, pure stupidity more like lol.

I had my 2 AF fans blowing hot air back into the case, thought they were both exhausting the hot air out. Front 3 intakes are fine, rear exhaust was fine, the extras that I bought a while back were on the wrong way around and may have been faulty (Trying to kop out). Fitted the 2 SF ones last night on top of the radiator and the other way around experienced the same problem, only this time in idle with way higher temperatures. Fiddled around with the connectors, reapplied thermal paste for the second time and now it's booting at 27-30C when browsing/idle. In games 55-70C, not had the chance to try long sessions, 25-30 minutes approximately, the early signs are good however.

I may still go ahead and invest in a better cooler soon, as some of you quite rightly said my case isn't the greatest for airflow.

idle with GPU Fan Stop enabled

CPU 28C
Motherboard 31C
GPU 35C
Storages 30-33C

Batman Arkham Knight idling for 55 minutes in the same spot 1440P 144HZ max settings with dual monitors
5 Storage drives between 40-45
MOBO temp has actually gone up from 34 to around about 50 since these changes :(

Temperatures 10 minutes after closing the game

CPU 31C
Motherboard 35C
GPU 41C (Fan stop enabled)
Storages
35-40C

Do these sound about right? GPU temps have gone up slightly, Motherboard has most definitely increased, CPU though is much better than the 90-100C after 10 minutes idling. Guess my next move is to setup a good GPU fan curve to try keep the GPU temps in the 60's (auto fans here), maybe even try applying a slight overclock to it through MSI Afterburner. I will go and ask about the fan curve and the overclock in the 1080TI thread though or even read about it on the internet, should be loads of material to read :).

Thanks a lot to you all for being patient and providing me with lots of useful information ;). I have bookmarked Disco P's Phanteks PH-TC14PE and Brazo's The bequiet 240mm jobby cooler suggestions if I at some point need them, will save myself the hassle of having to return <3.
