Eye Floaters

After friday night on the beers i can see a small black dot floating around. At first i thought it was a small fly so tried to grab it!

Are eye checkups free? I'm in Leeds and havent changed opticians (or even been to one in about 20 years)

had them for years, worse when in hot weather/in a bath or whatever, but just got used to them, and look through them, or chase them if I'm killing time >.<

Some are some aren't which is a bit rubbish of me haha.

You can get some vouchers from some places or if like me you've had eye problems for years you pay £26 which your workplace then picks up! :D

I was hoping for a thread about an eye in the toilet...

Anyway, I get these very occasionally and is usually takes some kind of action to bring them on. Day to day my sights not so bad though.

Yes that is very true. I never really went to nightclubs anyhow, I hate them, I much prefer pubs were the music is at much better levels. I have been to a couple of night clubs since my Tinnitus first started but it did not really effect it anyway. I no longer use ipods and only listen to music through my laptop speakers (they are not very powerful at all). I am 99.99999% sure it was the ipod that did it for me, I used to listen to it for hours every day when commuting to and from uni, at silly volumes, and when working on projects and essays on the computer. Tinnitus is horrible but I am lucky as I cannot hear it during the day, like you it is only at night time when I can hear it, when I am in total silence. I know there are quite a few researchers working on it and they are confident of finding a medicinal cure.

I went to an ELO concert a while ago it was so loud it hurt my ears. As soon as it was the half time intermission, everything sounded muffled. I knew it was damaging my ears so got out of there. Couldnt believe everyone else put up with it.

I've got floaters as well, a massive one in my left eye and loads of little ones in my right. I only notice them when I tend to not focus properly I sort of focus on them instead of the objects in front which is annoying.

Even the black dots instead of transparent. Someone mentioned a possible detatched retina and someone else even said 'could go blink in one eye'

ive got a black dot. its awful but after a while you dont see it as much, you sort of forget about it.

optician told me that if you get a lot of them all of a sudden or any black veils across the vision it could be the retina detaching but that is very rare unless you are over 60.

get it checked to put your mind at ease.

I have them, it's amazing the detail you can see, like watching cells through a microscope.

I can control mine really well, I like constructing sentences in my spare time.

There is a trick where you can actually seen in your eye like a microscope. If you see those little glints, dots of light on the edges of certain objects, like metals or glazed cups etc. If you then move your eye towards that dot of light whilst focusing on that light till its really close to your eye. Once you get close enough you should be able to see like the lense(or back of your eye), with lots of bits floating around and a row of giant black spikes which scythe down occasionally.

Don't think this has been posted but check out One Clear Vision, a new UK based charity setup to raise awareness of eye floaters. I've got a few floaters that drive me mad sometimes. I'd consider the laser treatment but don't fancy a trip to California and fear it'd go wrong or was untreatable due to proximity to the retina.

I still remember when I was about 3 years old, I used to tell people to watch the floating worm in the sky, saying "IT'S THERE!!!!" and I always tried to chase it! My parents thought I was bonkers!

Not asking for any medical advice on these just wondering if anyone else here experiences these. For those that don't know, they are basically little hair like squiggles which appear in your line of vision. I first noticed one in my right eye back in May, now I have one in my left eye too. Very annoying.
eye boogers I get them too in the morning

For those that DON'T have them, this is what we have to put up with:

And now imagine them moving around as you look around. Highly annoying!

It is normal though, unless its constant, Its just dead cells floating around in your eyeball fluid. Sometimes I have them for weeks, but Ive not had any for ages now.
Normally the floaters will settle down in time, but if they dont, as mentioned:

go see an optitian?

And i was hoping that you found an floating in your pint or something, gd is getting worse for sensationalist thread titles these days.

Almost everyone has floaters at some point, they're considered normal and most people won't even notice them just like most people don't even notice when their cars drive a bit strange or make weird noises that more observant people click on to immediately.

If it's a major issue then as above, see the men in white coats!
