Hi all,

I hvae purchased a MSI 270X OC 4gb and OCUK's Eyefinity Asus monitor bundle:

Im now looking at the best way to connect them.
so the GPU has 2x DVI + 1x DP + 1x HDMI outputs
and the Monitors have 2x HDMI & 1x D-Sub (DVI-D Supported via HDMI-to-DVI cable) (Am i right in thinking that D-sub is VGA?)

research has told me that the monitors come with DVI cables and the GPU comes with DVI - VGA adpater.

So what is the best option?

My 1st thoughts are
Option 1 - 1(HDMI-HDMI) 2(DP-HDMI) 3(DVI-HDMI)
Option 2 - 1(DVI-HDMI) 2(DP-HDMI) 3(DVI-HDMI)

Option 1 means i have to buy 1 HDMI cable, 1 DP-HDMI active adpater and 1 DVI-HDMI adapter
Option 2 means i have to buy 1 DP-HDMI active adpater and 2 DVI-HDMI adapters

Opinions?

The good news is that the 270X doesn't require active DP-adapters to run a third screen, unlike earlier AMD models (as mentioned in the reviews - http://www.hardwareluxx.com/index.p...eon-r9-280x-r9-270x-und-r7-260x-.html?start=1 ).

This means you're free to use any combination of the ports on your card. The monitors should each come with an HDMI to DVI cable (according to some websites that list the box contents that I can't link to as they're OcUK competitors), so I would use:

DVI-HDMI
DVI-HDMI
HDMI-HDMI (might have to nip to a supermarket to pick up a cheap cable if you don't have a spare)

Should be a case of plug them in, turn the PC on and you're good to go. :)

EDIT - just noticed your other question, you're right - DSUB is VGA.

I did not realise that about DP, thats good news to me!

I do have a spare HDMI cable kicking about, i just mentioned it on the OP to keep it simple.

To be honest, im surprised that the monitors dont have DVI as i was under the impression that DVI was still better than HDMI even though it is a lot older.

Are you sure it comes with a HDMI-DVI cable, all i could find was a DVI-VGA(i think) adaptaper?

Single link DVI and HDMI are pretty much the same, support up to 1920x1200 @ 60Hz, but HDMI can carry audio too. Dual link DVI supports higher resolutions/refresh rates than HDMI can currently, and is more established so could be why it's more prevalent on PC hardware. Newer HDMI specifications support higher resolutions/refresh too (such as 4K @ 60Hz) but they're not common yet in the wild. Also, to include an HDMI port the manufacturer has to pay a royalty fee, pretty sure VGA and DVI they don't - DP certainly doesn't require a royalty and the sooner it replaces all the others, the better in my book! :)

I'm not 100% sure of the cables the monitors come with, but a bit of digging shows the HDMI/DVI cable is listed in Asus' instruction manual: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/412115/Asus-Vn247h.html?page=7#manual

Id have to agree, the sooner DP is the norm, the better.
I can only keep my fingers crossed then. If i have to go out to the shops then so be.
Thanks for your help though, appreciate it! :)
