F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Demo OUT N ABOUT

Just finished playing it (steam).......amazing. Really really creepy stuff and runs great at x4x16 so it must look even better forcing highier AA. Yes it does feel alittle consoly with the odd menu triggers that are very clunky. VERY polished feel to the game with real potential for cinimatic gun fights.

The AI was really really good and havent seen any game (including Crysis) improve on the speed/randomness & tactics yet. Its nice to see it again but even more.

Havent felt this excited about a game in ages.

I loved it. Massive fan of the first game but I won't pass judgment (which one is better) till i've played the full version. I'm not sure I like the white glow you get when you use slow mo whilst you fire at the grunt dudes. May be it was a graphic problem or are they supposed to have that weird effect on them?

I think the graphics are great! Massive improvement on the first one and love the amount of effect variation they use in the game.

Gun sounds are great and the game seems to be as scary as ever.

I am getting 70fps @1600x1200 and 90fps @1280x1024
I am using Fraps so it could be wrong.

EDIT= Its still a console port and the wide screen is just Ewwww with 4.3 21" sony

Im playing at 1920x1080 with everythin on max 4aa and 16xaf and it wont budge from 30 constant, ill check see if ive got vsync enabled when ive got time, but thought lowest was 60fps with that enabled?

also using fraps

Veeeery cool game.

But
Why is my guy called Becket?
Why are there black bars top and bottom?
Why is there a blue frame interface thing on the sides?
And most importantly: Why don't limbs tear off?!

Having played the demo, I'll definitely be getting this. It's not going revolutionise gaming, nor is it going to be a life changing experience, but I do know it will be at least as good as the original ... which is good enough. :D

Apart from some of the minor niggles mentioned already:

- I'd really like to see the peaking function back again, just makes combat so much cooler.

- I can't use the 4th and 5th mouse buttons which is kind of annoying since the original FEAR allowed this, hope they get it fixed!

There's probably more, but I'd just be nitpicking. Also apart from the silly GUI, theres nothing console porty about it all, all the necessary settings are there and it runs brilliant (apart from the loading pauses - but thats also present in FEAR and Condemned - meaning its an engine issue). I have no idea why people are calling it a console port - theres absolutely no reason for it to be console port, since it's using the same engine as FEAR.

Look forward to the full version!

1.i dont have no black bars, so dont know why everyone else seems to have them? ( see my first post with link to screeny's)

2.well i thought he would be wearing a mask, reason for the hud thing

First impressions are decent. Looks good and runs well other than those inexplicable pauses every now and then. Machine-gunning people into a mess of body parts and blood with the big robomech thing will never get old.

Obviously you can't tell how the whole game will play from the short demo snippet, but from what there was I'm reminded of a Yahtzee quote from his review of, I think, Perseus Mandate (paraphrasing here): "The transitions between action and horror sequences occur with an almost audible clunk". It seemed do the same thing as the forgettable F.E.A.R. sequels where there are clearly delineated scary and fighty bits, like the school sequence was OMG HORROR!! and the subway and overland sequence OMG ACTION!!

It's hard to throw a scare into someone when you've warned them in advance that THIS HERE IS THE FRIGHTENING PART by having flickering lights, stuff flying around on its own and doors opening and closing spontaneously and the like, because when you then reach the writhing corpses somehow stuck to the ceiling and the spectral horrors skittering around at the edges of your vision, you're expecting it and the shock value is gone. OK I went off on one a bit there, but if there's one thing I hope they've got right in the retail version, it's this, over and above being able to remap additional mouse buttons or greater variety of enemies or whatever.

Am I the only one who just cannot play this game due to constant 3-5 second pauses? It is unplayable. I have noticed where these pauses take place if I laod save game it starts from that point. So it seems this auto save system is saving every few seconds.

They were pretty bad for me as well, worse than other people seem to be experiencing. I was about to suggest that maybe there's something in the fact that you and I both have 512MB 4850s, but if you say it's the autosave then that's that theory scuppered.

Thats what you get for having good graphics cards! Take that! My 7900GS runs its perfectly :D Sorry! Hope you fix the problem cause its definitely worth playing

60 would be the highest, assuming a 60 refresh rate. It would drop to 30 if you can't maintain 60.

I ran everything on max, 1920x1200 and it ran like water off a ducks back, no problems whatsoever :/ I have an 8800 GT so hardly cutting edge.

As for the game, two words; ******* awesome. Can't wait to play it. The mech snippet was fantastic, they've got the look and feel just right, you are sitting in a well-armed killing machine and it's fun! Gib-tastic.

Enjoyed the demo, had a couple of issues that have been mentioned before did get the odd pause and the black bars were a pain but that aside it was great fun. Stomping around in the power suit was a larf, and that bit in the cinema got the old ticker pumping a bit faster!
