F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin Demo OUT N ABOUT

Runs very nicely on my rig. Seems to be more of a splatterfest than the original too.

Question though, when in the mech I involuntarily exit it every few moments. Anyone else get that?

That was sweet :D

Definately not as scary as the first though.. I remember moments in the original where I'd be sitting bolt upright eyes popping out of my skull with every hair on my body standing up.

Can't wait to buy it though :D

little pausing now and again like its loading next scene coming up or something.looks ok bit to consoley for me. perfer deadspace.

Ran okay on my aging Athlon 4800 at a res of 1920x1600. Small black bars not too distracting.
A 'Sound Acceleration Error' meant no sound though which just killed any atmospere within the game. A possible buy in Feb but right now I'm going back to the original :)

Wow, fantastic demo, really enjoyed it... scarred by that school corridor moment ^^ I just ran through as fast :D

Runs really nice and smooth on my system too, e7200, 2GB, 8600GT. Looks amazing too. Definitely grabbing a copy when it comes out !

As for save stuttering, mine was only for 1/2 - 1 second, so not really noticeable.

layed the demo on PC and PS3.

PC (Core2Duo E6750 @3.0ghz, GTX 260 MAX CORE, 2GB RAM, VISTA 64) version runs on MAX settings with 4xFSAA and 4xAA details on my PC at 1920x1200, though the game defaulted to 960x600.

60 FPS most of the time with some dips to 30 FPS, with vertical sync on. With it off the game runs 65-90 FPS and doesn't drop below 50FPS. Go figure.

I get the micro stuttering as mentioned by others, it usually happens when the game is accessing the HDD. This might be because I am running it on Vista at the moment and there is only 2GB RAM in my machine. And/or when the game is saving checkpoints.

The PS3 version doesn't look as good for a start, the textures aren't as details and sharp and the game defintely suffers from running at a lower resolution without FSAA. It also suffers from slow down in the same places as the PC version. Plus the PS3 version isn't nearly as playable with a gamepad compared to the PC's keyboard and mouse combination.

As for the gampeplay, this IS a FEAR game, no doubt about that. It's very atmospheric and scary, but it's also very linear, just like the first one. In fact I would go as far to say its the same game with better graphics. Now for me thats not a bad thing, I enjoyed FEAR an will probably enjoy this one.

The slow mo combat is very satisfying and you are constantly moving forward and not getting held up by puzzles. You can also flip up tables and the like to act as cover during fire fights.

As for the complaints about it being a console port, I just don't see it. a lot of games use on screen prompts to tell you which keys to press to perform a certain actions. Half Life 2 did it and no one is saying that was a shoddy console port.

If anything I would say the console version is a shoddy PC port. The graphics are worse and the levels take longer to load. No doubt the PC multiplay will better, hosting more players and any developer content being released to PC owners for free. I didn't realise that PS3 owners of COD 4 had to pay £8 for what turned out to be patch 1.6 of the PC version.

The PC version also runs a nice little applet for G15 keyboards, you get a HUD for armour, health and ammo running on the LCD. Nice touch I thought.

HL2 did it, yes, but only once. Games have got into a habit these days of telling you what button or key to press all the time. It's a very console-ish thing to do. That being said, it's only something I noticed, it doesn't particularly detract from the game and it certainly isn't indicative of the game being a shoddy port. It's not.

I set the res to 1280x800 (or something) to make it full screen, but i canned it after i got out of the subway, as the pausing was just to much.

Was bloody, take 2 steps pause, take 2 steps pause....., look through the sniper sight, pause as he lifts the ******* rifle up, pause halfway zooming in with it, getting shot from behind so turn around, halfway through turning around, bloody pause........

Me, you wanna pause, ill ******* pause yer, PAUSE, QUIT, REMOVE, how'd yer like those ******* apples!!!!!.:mad:

excellent demo.
Never really got into the first one as it just didnt feel quite right to me, but whatever it was is not present in this demo :)
Happily shell out some hard earned cash on the final release.

Have you not noticed the game auto saving at all? My guess is your hardrive is a bit faster than ours so it saves to disk faster.

Edit: Just played through again, it's perfectly alright tbh, just a half/second pause after some of the action sequences.

It stutters for me also, and my boot and storage drives are quit fast, see sig.

Reminds me of what good demos used to be like! liked the kind of trailer at the end

I wasnt impressed by screenshots previously, looked just the same. I can CLARIFY, everything looks better in motion and the graphics are a lot better, along with the design, theme and FEAR :D great!

Was anyone else blown away by the sound?
I thought the effects, clarity and level of detail was amazing, i turn the sound up and the lights off and jumped a fair few times, will have to buy the full game.

is this game a games for windows ?

couldnt get my bloody 360 controller to work with this game lol, would have much prefeared to use that.

anyway the game looks great and my only complaint is that i get constant stuttering for no more than 1 second at a time though out the demo.

1920x1080p 16xaa16xaf all maxed.
