F.E.A.R: Extraction Point Expansion Pack

FEAR seems to be a bit of a Marmite of a game.
I thought it was awesome :)

One of the best games ever released :)

The environments weren't that samey, they were just realistic. When you wander round an office building, its not like they decorate each hallway differently :p Besides, some of the environments were truely great (you didn't think the Armacham HQ was the only area did you?).

Its a truely 'mature' game, in that its clearly targetted at an older audience. Well, I suppose it does have an 18 cert on it too. But the way the story is told, you need to pick up the phones and laptops to get the real skinny. As you progress through the game you get more and more info slowly building a picture in your head. Initially its just some crazy clone soldiers, but you learn that the water has been contaminated, and Armacham is interested. Then when you get to Armacham you notice a lot of infighting over whats happening and what to do. It just gets more and more interesting imo :)

I also liked how all the graphics were to scale, too many games have some pretty odd ideas on how big or small certain objects are.

Having said all that, I'm very dubious about the expansion pack. Will it be as good as the original? I would hate to ruin one of my favourite games. If its just more levels with no finesse, no story, just targets; I won't be interested.

Well I'm only 20 minutes in and I've already experienced more than a fair share of pant crapping moments

I can tell its gonna be great

just finished this

Took me 5 hours

and before anyone says "what a waste of money" or "why bother doing it in one sitting"

Well, firstly, no it isnt a waste of money, those 5 hours were probably the best 5 hours of gameplay i've experienced in a long time. And one sitting, well it was like a good book, I just didnt wanna stop

They've just built on the original so much, and theres so many more moments that make you jump. It really is such a good game. I'll write a proper review when I've had some dinner

Will be picking this up very shortly :)

I imagine the 5 hours depends how you play. I like to charge in and have fun, and die fairly often. Its more fun that sitting back and trying to do it perfectly...
Look forward to a review :)

I wish I had the money for this, been waiting for ages. All depends on those lovely people at the SLC sorting out my student funds.

I love the original though it wasn't until I played through it a second time before I realised how good it was. :D

it has more levels, more weapons, and tells you what happens are that girl (forgot name) hops on the chopper
I think the girl was called Alma.

Looking foward to this, i thought the original got the atmosphere just right with the weird music and sounds. Got me right on edge.

Bring on more I say.

Cant wait now. Got an email saying my game has been dispatched, should be here either tomorrow or day after :D

Just been down to town to pick up my copy :D Seems good so far but performance is a little choppy even dropping FSAA back to 2x at 1280x960 everything else maxed out. The original game in comparision worked smoothly everything maxed out with 4x FSAA. Spec is a core2duo, GX2, x-fi and 2GB of RAM.

Just about to try out my other purchase company of heros.

Think I'll wait for it to make an eventual appearance on Xbox 360/PS3. It still isn't widescreen and I hate faffing about with config files to get it so.

ill wait , when i bought HL2 - Episode 1 i learnt my lesson , complete waste of money
sorry but approx 5-8hrs of gameplay isnt worth the purchase,
specially when they script a 30min section in the same place *train station* etc

this is the reason i decided to buy 2142 @ £20,
even though the demo was utter garbage the value is significantly more as i'll play this for months , years maybe

FEAR was great, walked all over say PREY

I'm not sure I'd call this "faffing" as such ;)

(from http://www.widescreengamingforums.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7277)

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\TimeGate Studios\FEARXP\settings.cfg You can also get there from the Start Menu folder using "Shortcut to User directory".

Open settings.cfg using notepad and change the following lines to your custom values:

"ScreenWidth" "1440"
"ScreenHeight" "900"

Then save the file and you're good to go. Changing the Display options in game will cause it to revert to a non-widescreen resolution.

Pretty much the same as I had to do to get F.E.A.R. running at my native 1680x1050 (obviously by replacing the res shown above) ;)

I know what you mean though, it is kinda frustrating that the devs couldn't have just included the option for higher widescreen resolutions!

V1N.

Got my copy delivered today :D I haven’t played on it yet so cant comment.

The performance in the settings tester is better than i expected, i get a minimum of 42 fps on full full settings. Its just that I cant get the game resolution any higher than 1024 x 768 in the settings menu. There is no option higher than 1024 x 768. Will I have to force the resolution? Has anyone else noticed this?

Got my res running at 1600x1200 atm, going to do the res hack when i get round to playing it again, the graphics are excellent as you would expect from F.E.A.R and there is some scary **** coming at you within the first few scenes.. great expansion. get it bought!
