F.E.A.R: Extraction Point Expansion Pack

Just been down to town to pick up my copy :D Seems good so far but performance is a little choppy even dropping FSAA back to 2x at 1280x960 everything else maxed out. The original game in comparision worked smoothly everything maxed out with 4x FSAA. Spec is a core2duo, GX2, x-fi and 2GB of RAM.

Just about to try out my other purchase company of heros.

that's what I thought. I thought it was maybe my cpu but with a core2 and a gx2 (which seam to show great fear benches) it's just poor coding.

Just completed the expansion pack. Its good and lives upto the original its at least as good as the original maybe even better as the ending isnt quite so lame as the original. Kinda leaves a lot of questions un answered at the end tho.

What games are they, FPS or other genres? I'll probably pick this up, I enjoyed the atmosphere of the first so hopefully this will continue with the expansion...

BF2142
Dark Messiah
Crysis
HL EP2
Quake Wars
Supreme Commander
Medieval 2: total war
C&C3

+ more throughout this year and the next

Oh so no fps games out soon that I've missed then? Crysis and HL2 ep2 are the only comparable games there but they're not out until next year. Can't wait for Quake Wars either but thats been put back as well :(

Been playing a bit of this over the weekend. The enemy AI and world objects make for some interesting combat, just like the main game. But the same frustrations about confusing plot and under-developed sidekick characters remain.

Performance wise it's kinda annoying that they haven't beefed up the benchmark to be a more strenuous test. Using settings that gave minimum FPS >50 in that test, I found that in the starting area of the game, the FPS had dropped down below 30!. So basically I would halve whatever min FPS the benchmark quotes you for a more realistic guide.

I was also hoping that now I have a 512meg card, I would be able to use high quality textures - but it still uses around 1.2gig RAM if I do that. I thought that having more video memory might reduce the need for so much system memory where textures are concerned, but obviously I was mistaken. I think you need 1.25gig RAM minimum to use play this game with textures set to max.

Yep, got all textures set to max - I have 1GB in the PC I play it on and most of the time the game is jurky and HDD light is constantly on!

Just got the game through in the post today and it's buggered! After playing for about 5-10 mins, I get graphical corruption just as I walk upto the church. Game stopped once but could hear talking etc, last time the sound effects i.e. gunfire was none existant but the music was? Anyone else having similar issues?

CPU is but only by 140MHz. I don't think it's my x1800XT, I don't get any problems in BF2/2142 or in windows etc. I did see a few other posts on the Fear forums from people with similar problems to mine but they were on different stages of the game. Maybe my DVD is dodgy!

Sound issues in FEAR aren't unheard of (make sure you install the wfmadist.exe in the game directory), but graphical corruption suggests it is more likely to be a hardware/driver issue.

Just because all other games are fine, doesn't necessary mean that this isn't the case - FEAR is pretty demanding. Why not try running everything at stock and see if the problem occurs - shouldn't take you more than 15mins to test.

I'd also have a look in your catalyst control panel and make sure AA/AF etc aren't being forced at driver level.

I myself and a work collegue have noticed sound bugs within the expansion. An example would be, after killing an enemy soldier he hits the ground with a thud and the noise continues. The bug did not spoil the game to much but kept me on my toes more.

FEAR runs fine with me with 2GB of RAM in. Some minor sound issues for example when you fire a gun for the first time the game and sound will stutter, or when a soldier hits the ground, that hugely over noisy bang sound stutters the game. But after it has happened once everything is fine.

Also no problems with xfire running in the background either.

Picked this up earlier.

Only about 20 minutes in so far, and its awesome.
Made me jump numerous times and freaked me out on others, AI is sharp as ever. Loving it :D

Just finished it earlier and I've got to say I though it was better than first part. Much more intense , more gun battles and more scary with all the darkness and blood soaked walls.
