F1 2010 - 3rd dev video on weather now live

I wonder how many team's individual car aspects will be incorporated. Will we see the F-Duct? Will cars have the same steering wheel or different for each driver/manufacturer?

Those screenshots do look good. When is this due for release?

Lets hope the damage models are good. I always love a good crash on the 1st corner, I expect fire, explosions and lots of debris!

September 2010

Not sure about fire, don't see much of that these days especially with no pit-stop refuelling. Pity about the lack of Safety Car though so any first corner smash-up isn't going to do much to the race strategy.

New interview with lots of information on out of the cockpit stuff, quite a good watch

The game content looks really quite brilliant. I like that they are doing a little race bio before you start the game to figure out if you're an arcade racer or a sim racer, nice touch.

Also really can't wait to start with one of the new teams and work my way up through a long career. That sounds so me.

Saying all that, I'm still not trying to get too excited though. I won't be 100% convinced about the physics until I play it.

I am actually looking more forward to this each time a new video is released :)
The weather looks very interesting and I will be one of those trying to make it as realistic as possible and not arcade style short races

To be fair they give it an 8/9 for handling, which considering the game is still Alpha stage isn't too bad surely?

Inside sim racing are usually quite generous, especially if they have been allowed early access to a game. Also their rating system would allow an all out arcade game and a full simulation to both receive a 10 in physics, with no disparity between them. As a sim racer I therefore take that rating with a barrel of salt.

I'm simply going by what I saw. It looked very very easy, until now I thought all the handling videos I have seen were being played on easy, but as they say they had no assists turned on and didn't really ever have to make a correction.

The wheel sensitivity was also way off even for default values and I'm not sure whether to give them the benefit of the doubt here. People keep spurting out that this is very early in development, but with 4-5 months left to go it just isn't, not for handling. The basic physics simulation should be pretty solid by now, considering the entire game depends on it.

Edit: I'm not giving up on this and I'm not just a bitter critic, but they have to earn the respect of the sim racers. They talk the talk, but until I see or even better feel something solid I am preparing myself for disappointment.

Edit 2: Watching it again maybe my concerns are about the current lack of wheel support. The car looked sluggish to respond and difficult to do exactly what it wanted them to do (looking at the wheel movement), which might be about playing the game with twitchy joypad configs, but with a much more accurate wheel. Just please don't let wheels be an afterthought, it felt like that in your previous games.

Ah sod it... Pre ordered for me. There aren't too many modern day F1 games to play, and to be honest Grid, dirt and Dirt 2 provided me a few many wasted hours in the past, so its on pre order.

I'm sure to the casual gamer it will be fine. I hope..!!

At the end of the day it's only ever going to be as much of a simulator as Forza is at the very most, it'll never get near rFactor or iRacing because to do so would require way too much effort and appeal to a fraction of people.

Codemasters can clearly make damn good fun racing games that appeal to the casual racer and if this one can go a bit more in depth and realistic then great but I don't want a game crippled for the average user just to make it appeal to a small minority of hardcore fans who will probably just return to rFactor or something anyway when F1 2010 isn't exactly the same.

"they have to earn the respect of the sim racers"

Well they don't really. If they want to sell to them they do but the attitude they somehow owe something to a small community of hardcore sim fans or need to win their approval, is only going to cause disappointment as they would be mad to focus on that market.

Codies have told us that they are aiming at a different market to that of Dirt and Grid, that the physics engine will be built around a simulation philosophy and then tweaked for the arcade crowd. I have always said that I don't expect anything like full simulation, but codemasters have already targeted us. They don't owe us anything, I never said they did, I just hope they make good on their commitments.

I never expected a full sim, this absolutely wont replace my needs as a sim racer and I'm fine with that. If they manage to pull off physics on a Forza level I will be impressed considering their history. I just want decent, predictable physics. That is all I'm concerned about. Everything else looks incredible.

Looks like he has auto gears on.
I think you might be right, I guess I'll just have to be patient.

I've been following this game for a while and the more I see the more it's shaping up to be 'disappointing', to me at least....

I'm a 'hardcode sim racer' and, especially after the ISR vid, it does seem they're not really making a sim, which is fine, although after specificially mentioning simulation aspects several times previously does seem a bit meh...

I think it will be a big game though, the majority of people aren't like me and overly bothered by the sim side of things, so fair play on codemasters going after the bigger, and quite probably 'easier' market

Still, gonna download the demo if/when they do one, but unless it's a complete revelation compared to what's been shown so far I don't think I'll be buying it :p
