F1 2010 season abit boring?

This is why Melbourne should have been the opening race.

any new fans to formula one, watching the first race of the season would have been turned off straight away.

Cracker of a race at melbourne, as always...
Bahrain is just a bad track for racing, I don't even think it should be on the calendar. Excellent race at Australia though :D

Well if every race is like Australia ill take it all back.

It was great to watch from start to finish Hamilton made up for Saturdays poor performance, just a shame he got rear ended. Button made a fantastic decision and walked away with the win. There was also a good healthy amount of incidents for when action dried up.

100th Post woooo :D!!!

Hamilton is so ****ed at his team it's funny, his attitude during the BBC interview and team radio was amusing

He shouldnt be anoyed at his team. They asked Jenson hows the tyres and he wanted to change.

Id be more ****ed off at Webber trying to use the same bit of road.

Well it was the second stop that he was annoyed about, not the first.

Condeming the season based on one race is a bit premature, but it is clear that something needs to be done to aid overtaking. Turn one at Bahrain should be an overtaking spot, so we really should have seen some excitment. Right now, if you are around 1-1.5seconds faster than the car in front you still wont be able to overtake on a dry track. You really need about 2 seconds a lap to overtake, and in F1 2 seconds is a lifetime...

hamilton had 2 seconds a lap over alonso but couldnt get past, you need more like 3 seconds to get past a good racer who knows how to defend well, ie alonso.

they need to change the tires, softs should not last 50+ laps.

they need to change the rear wing/defuse to make cars able to follow one another without getting a lot of understear if they are clearly quicker.

Not many new fans would get up at 7am to watch a race ;)
The rain helped. Hamilton screwing up his qualifying helped. Alonso spinning at the first corner helped. The odd thing about F1 is that when the teams perform well it usually leads to a bad race.

Without the unsettled weather i think it would have been more of the same, by the time the track was mostly dry towards the end we were pretty much back in the same situation as before when overtaking switched back from mechanicle to grip to aero.

Indeed. All the fun and games occurred when the track was wet.

Even Hamilton who was about 2.5s/lap faster than Alonso, before he arrived on Alonso's back, was unable to overtake him, once he was in the dirty air of Alonso's vehicle. This all happened when the track was dry.

I think its sad situation when the car behind is 2.5s/lap faster than the car in front and is unable to make an overtaking manouvre stick.

Even in the dry, Australia has always provided a good season opener imo. It's a much trickier track than places like Bahrain, partly because the old surface has lower levels of grip. This combined with it being everybody's first day back always seems to result in some excitment even if it too isn't the easiest track to overtake on. So even dry it is definitely a much better season opener, although it certainly wouldn't have had the excitment levels of yesterday's race.
