Its not like it would be hard for them either, as F1 is filmed in HD using HD cameras and recording equipment. They just choose to only broadcast the stream in SD because "the majority of countries and viewers wont use it". This argument makes sense if it meant having to buy all the HD kit, but as they have it, is there really such a costs to output the feed as they film it?

This will be the first year it is being recorded in HD, apart from a Fuji race a couple of years ago.

Excellent. So I can now watch cars not overtake each other in glorious high definition.

Oh wait, no I can't. Because I don't have a television at all, never mind a HD TV. And the places I go to watch F1 on TV (the local pub, my parents house) aren't going to have HD TVs any time soon because there's bugger all point. Oh well, I'm sure I'll survive :D

Do you go to pubs in the past? Every pub I go into now has HD football on either a few HDTVs or a Projector, even my local has 3D.

They may even provide a HD stream over the website, although obviously it won't be quite as good.

Do you go to pubs in the past?

Heh.

There are two pubs very near my home. One has Freeview, standard definition, with a pretty crap LCD TV in the lounge and a projector+screen in the bar. Hi-def would be a complete waste of money for them. The other is about to get Sky, possibly with HD but I doubt it, and I'd rather not go in there anyway as it's not really a nice place to be - you can see through the window frames better than you can through the glass itself....It's wanted serious money spending on it for at least twenty years, but the brewery and later pub companies have always made do with a bit of paint and maybe some wallpaper once in a while.

I suppose I could go into town to one of the big pubs to watch it, but what's the point? Watching F1 in standard definition hasn't harmed my enjoyment of it over the years. I can't think of a single moment when I've thought "boy, this would look so much better with a few more pixels". Yes, HD looks better. But not so much better that I'm going to do everything in my power to watch F1 in that format.

That being said - I'm glad that F1 is being broadcast in HD now, since it'll finally stop the whining that's been going on all over this forum and others about why FOM and the TV networks hadn't gotten around to it! One less thing for you lot to moan about Bernie Ecclestone for....

FOTA to investigate whether RBR overspent their allowed budget under the Resource Restriction Agreement.

Wonder who's been complaining? Sounds like it isn't Ferrari, given that their team boss reckons that everyone abdided with the RRA:

Stefano Domenicali, who earlier revealed that he has stepped down as FOTA's vice-president, confirmed that the teams' alliance is investigating the claim, however, he said he was confident that all the teams had complied with the agreement.

Finally.

Imagine all those pit babes in high definition. Err I mean, all the overtaking, increased details on the cars and track and then all the other cool stuff associated with high definition!

I have to agree with this.

Out here HDTV is a little bit behind you lot and of course costs a lot more than for you goes back in blighty, added to the fact that sky has onle around 15 HD channels but costs a fortune every month, I just crave for English commentary...

Regarding the HD broadcasting.

Bernie has been proven correct when he said we'll have HD in 2011 during the interview with EJ. Good work by him and everyone associated with the process.

I have Freesat HD on the TV downstairs which will be perfect for the F1. Currently picking up BBC HD & BBC One HD. Probably pick up a recording device for upstairs to capture the memories in HD :)

Is there any news of the practice sessions and the F1 forum being broadcast in HD? As we already know, they're shown on the Red Button.

I've noticed that BBC One HD shows whatever is on BBC One at the time in HD if it's available. Most of the time it is. So it's pretty much the same channel.

BBC HD on the other hand shows a couple of BBC 2 programs (Top Gear) and HD repeats of wildlife docs, antiques roadshow etc.

Note to the BBC:
Practice sessions & F1 Forums - Red Button / BBC HD
Qualifying & Race - BBC One / BBC One HD
