Shall we play spot the difference? :)

HRT have announced that it's not the 2012 car.

Woot, about time. Unlike a lot of you I don't want to see any of the new teams fail. More cars on the grid the better.

HRT have reportedly passed all their mandatory FIA crash tests, meaning the team can run at Barcelona next time out.

Although HRT contested the opening pre-season test at Jerez, the backmarker outfit did so using last year's F111.

However, they opted to sit out the second test after their 2012 chassis failed to pass its mandatory crash tests.

The team revealed that the car failed just two of the 17 tests, which reportedly related to the roll hoop and the lateral nose.

HRT, though, will be permitted to run their new car at the final test after finally passing all 17 tests.

The final pre-season test kicks off on March 1st at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.

Id rather have less teams with them all competitive than have the sport dragging along a couple of teams who are going nowhere, many seconds off the pace, and after 3 years in the sport still cant get a car ready on time.

Arguably the teams are performing poorly because the FIA chose the wrong teams, but that doesn't mean we should keep hold of them just for the sake of it. They aren't competitive, and they aren't providing the stepping stone into the sport for new drivers. They are pretty useless.

Yep absolutely. Caterham are the only ones who have shown any promise right from the start with a commitment to get better and actually making a car for testing and adding updates through the season. The other two haven't got their cars ready on time (again!) and barely make any changes all season. This year Caterham will have KERS so they'll be dropped even more from the teams ahead. They're wasting everyones time.

I still think that new teams should be allowed to run only one car to start with. Less expense, less man power needed and so more chance to build what they have. Then commit them to running 2 cars in year 3.

I'm 50:50 on the whole thing. I think the teams were screwed over by the FIA as they signed up to a set of regulations that were then taken away from them (no budget caps, restriction on testing, etc), so I do have some sympathy for them and I'm sure they are trying hard.

However, I also think the FIA made a complete balls up with their choice of new teams in the first place. Choosing the political allies over proven teams who might actually make progress has completely backfired on them, and we have been left with a couple of dead weights pulling the sport down.

Unlike lotus, they've both had a lot of issues. They'll get there or go bust. No reason to want their demise. Who cares if they're 4seconds off the pace, what does it change?

My issue is what they are (or aren't) bringing to the sport. They are not providing the step into F1 that the back end teams used to. Minardi for example used to be a solid stepping stone in F1 for drivers to then work up the grid. This is no longer the case with them just chucking in whoever is paying the most on a race by race basis.

And also, it bugs me to know that we have Marussia and HRT on the grid in stead of some of the other options the FIA had like Prodrive or Lola (I know we have discussed weather Lola would have been any good before, but come on, they were better placed than Team America, weren't they?).

I think my bigger issue is with who the FIA chose in the first place, rather than the performance of the teams now they are here. I don't wish their demise on any of them. What I do wish is that they would either get their act together, or move aside and let someone else have a go. The FIA have said there will be no more than 12 teams in F1, so teams need to be worthy of their place on the grid. At the moment, being 2/3rd's of the way into testing for their 3rd year in F1 and still not being able to produce a car ready for the season ahead is simply not good enough.

You know in 2010 HRT were the first team in the history of the Formula 1 World Championship to go the entire season without a single upgrade to the car? And then their 2011 car was just the 2010 one with a new front wing!

Yes the CIA made bad choices. But as we have sen they aren't willing to replace teams. So if they fail, the grid won't be made back up. It's allready 1 team short.

Gp2 does not have the other f1 teams in it. They need a year or two more.

CIA?

That would explain a lot about the complete lack of intelligence displayed by the management. :D

While I do agree that the CIA have made some horrendous choices/decisions over the years, I wouldn't say that they have been directly responsible for the selection of HRT or Marussia. :p

Lol. I think you should keep browsing the forums on your phone, makes things interesting :)

The FIA haven't said they wont replace anyone who drops out. But, given the clearly political selection process that happened last time, you would have to wonder if any of the big players would actually apply should a spot open up. And if thats the case, were stuck with who we have now, so the least we can expect of them is year on year improvement, and they just aren't delivering. Are HRT going to be driving their new car for the first time at the first race, just like they did in 2010?
