F1 2012 Test dates

Odd. I thought they had traded Thursday for a private test on Monday, which is exactly what some teams (Merc) have already done elsewhere?

Unless the FIA have imposed a cutoff of Sunday for all 2012 preseason testing?

Actually, HRT aren't running this week but Marussia are, with their 2011 car.
Not any more they aren't. It failed it's crash tests. They'll be able to do straightline tests in it before the season, but that's it. Their first real test will be P1 in Melbourne.

HRT and Marussia aren't quite at Andrea Moda's level of uselessness, but they're getting there.

AUTOSPORT can reveal that the intervention from the FIA came after a request for clarification about the wording of article 22.4C of the rules.

This clause states that apart from some straightline testing and a Young Driver test, no testing may take place: "between the start of the week preceding the first Event of the Championship and 31 December of the same year."

The issue at stake was the definition of when the 'week preceding the first event of the championship' was.

How can a multi-million pound project/team fail to meet the deadline? They've known the date since last year. This is going to destroy both of their chances of holding onto Caterham.

I can only assume this is going to be due to some 'prior commitment' rubbish around PR or things (like Lewis being unable to attend Sutils trial)?

Lewis Hamilton is considering changing plans and attending the upcoming Mugello test as an emergency measure to put McLaren's faltering season back on track.

Although the team have signalled that neither Hamilton nor Jenson Button would be involved in the May 1-3 test, Hamilton has confirmed that he may now cancel plans for a week off in the wake McLaren's unexpected loss of pace in Sunday's grand prix.

"It might change," Hamilton told The Daily Telegraph. "I need to get back in the car. We need to figure out why the tyres are going off.

"If there are other things to test or ways to figure out I will be the one to do it, not let some-one else do it."

Not completely unexpected, following their dire race. I'll get a Mugello test thread up at the weekend.

Lol, 'faltering' season. Its hardly like McLaren have had a torrid time of it so far.

But not running either race driver was a bit odd.
