F1 2013 Testing: Week 2 Barcelona

So Mercedes are doing well and Red Bull aren't. Something not right here. :p

Fastest cars from the 12 days of testing before last season:

Red Bull, Force India, Williams, Sauber, Lotus, Lotus, Sauber, Lotus, Lotus, Mercedes, Mercedes, Ferrari

And the 16 days (was there really that many?) of 2011 testing:

Red Bull, Ferrari, Renault, Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault, Williams, Red Bull, Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull, Red Bull, Sauber, Mercedes, Mercedes

So even in the year they dominated all they didn't top the time sheets at every test. Last year the fastest car accross the season (McLaren) didn't top a single test. The fact there are a lot of Mercedes and Lotus/Renault and Sauber in there tell you a lot too.

RBR are not topping the time sheets because they don't want to.

And the 16 days (was there really that many?) of 2011 testing:

It was the odd year where they were going to do a test at Bahrain but then did an additional one in Spain again instead (so 4 x 4 days in Spain). Last year they did 16 days but Mugello was during the season, which I expect they'll do again this year.

I'm not sure if RBR are the fastest.
My gut tells me that McLaren have the fastest car (so far).
Though, to beat Vettel, McLaren/Button will need a faster car.
One thing which may go in McLaren's favour this year though, is that they will run a proper No.1/No.2 system, which should allow them to maximise points for Button.
And lets not forget that Lotus seem to have a very drivable car.

Take a look at the following poll.

Most people seem to think that McLaren have the fastest car - I'd agree.

Tale a look at this article. Mid way down the page.

Predictions for the grid at Australia (A.Benson):
1. Jenson Button (McLaren)‬‬
2. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull)
3. Fernando Alonso (Ferrari)

It seems that the majority of people feel that McLaren will start the season with the fastest car.

I don't know why people are even bothering to predict. Some teams will have completely new packages coming before Melbourne, tricks that they don't want other teams to see.

That all said, I have to say, there's a very positive noises coming out about the Williams (though there normally are each pre-season). Against the above paragraph, I wouldn't bet against Maldonado getting in among the top teams in the first few races.

andrew benson is suddenly good source of information? you might want to check some of his past articles because he talks out of his anus a lot

Andrew "testing is notoriously difficult to read" Benson. Surely not?

If you can't tell, I'm bored of him copying/pasting and his ITV level of spoonfeeding the idiots. I'd never expect full on technical evaluations on the BBC, but there is a middle ground.

Benson's articles are like The Sun of sports reporting.

Hamilton wasn't unhappy, I just think he was being matter of fact and Webber was probably unhappy at wearing a cap with a huge number 2 on it :p

Hasn't it been confirmed there is no in season test this year?

It seems that the majority of people feel that McLaren will start the season with the fastest car.

Lets hope they do a better job with it than they managed last year.

I think you missed the :p and the end of my post. :)

Luiz Razia was meant to do two days last week for Marussia, but apparently his money is slow coming through. Wonder if he will drive this week.

Good extra mileage for Chilton.
