F1 good for Pirelli???

all the rubber that flies off the tyres is like they are disintergrating wich makes them look poor and crap.

maybe this is somthing for the bbc to think about when they present the program in the 1hour build up, they should just keep mensioning over and over that the tires are designed to do this and then just hope that it sinks into the thick skulls of the public.

my only concern isnt the rate they wear, but they way they do, it was a sea of rubber offline at the weekend, looked like a massive gamble into t1 offline over what looked more like black gravel than a tarmac circuit

Some of the shots showing the condition of the track were the worst I've ever seen. :eek:

I think any that have not enough interest in the sport to know what they are trying to achieve would have the patience to watch all 2 hours or whatever of an F1 race.

Everybody i know that watches F1 is a pretty devout fan. F1 doesnt have casual fans that watch it but know nothing abuot the sport in my experience.
 
Probably results in a net gain for Pirelli. It is good exposure with their name everywhere, but imo there are too many pitstops now (and we haven't even seen the most demanding tracks yet). Plus, they really need to sort out the rubber falling off the tyre. I am sure they will find a happy medium soon.

The skill is to build a car and drive a car in such a way that you can get the optimum performance from them. And that's exactly the skills I want to see.

I don't want to see the skills of Bridgestone or Pirelli or Dunlop in chemically engineering a synthetic rubber that'll make the planet turn the other way.

But that's just another element in a series that isn't equal anyway. You are already watching a series where one driver is handicapped because his designers never came up with a flexi wing, or an engine that has enough power or reliable enough etc etc.

Atleast with a tyre war a midfield team picking the right tyre for the weekend can give them a result. The trouble before was Bridgestone built them for ferrari and screw everyone else.
 
I'm absolutely fine with the design of the car being an element to the winning of races. Adrian is a part of Red Bull and his designs are contributing to their success. If the tyres were developed by the teams I would have no issue with that. But they won't be. You'll have the major manufacturers picking preferred teams and playing a major part in the racing, when it shouldn't be about them, it should be about the driver for a team, driving a car built by the team. That is the distinction.
 
Yes but what I'm saying is allow 3 or 4 tyre manufacturers in and let the teams choose which tyre they want race by race. Fridays coulod be a decent tyre testing day and the 3rd driver could actually be useful and gain some experience.

Just an idea, your reasoning is sound and part of why I disliked the last tyre war. I just really dislike this forced wear. I preferred multiple manufacturers going as soft as they dare in relation to wear and speed.
 
As I said above, race by race would never work as every supplier would need enough tyres to equip every team in the pitlane so there would be absolutely huge amounts of wastage.
 
Why can't they design a tyre that gives peak performance for a number of laps, then when a small top surface is gone the performance drops off but remains for a long time?

In other words a very hard tyre with a top layer of soft rubber, as soon as the soft layer is gone the tyre will hold but is 3 seconds a lap slower.
 
They wouldn't be binned afterwards though, just shipped to the next track, still a lot of shipping weight though!

Teams should pick their supplier pre season, and stick with them, open choice though~!

Compounds are track specific aren't they?

Ie. the super soft for Australia isn't the same compound as super soft for Malaysia?

I seem to recall this being an issue at some point in recent years where not enough tyres were available somewhere and they couldn't just use tyres from another track as they were different.

lol right the tyres are designed to destroy themselfs with huge fist size chunks flying off...

i wonder what will happen if one of these chunks gets thrown out the back off someones diffuser and slams into a following drivers helmet.

think about it for a moment all these huge rubber chunks all over the track are a massive safety concern, seems nothing was learned from massas accident

that was a major spring which was the weight (recording to mr eddie) is the same as a bag of sugar. abit diffrent to a rubber the size of garden peg. ;)

some of those chunks are much bigger than a garden peg and with the force of air coming out of a diffuser i wouldnt like to be getting hit by one.

like snowballs weight almost nothing... they still hurt like hell if they hit you from someone with a competent throw.

we could test it out you drive down the road in a convetible and i throw tennis balls at your head, see if it causes a crash :P

I think we will need to call Mythbusters and ask them if a small rubber marble can penetrate a carbon fibre racing helmet and while we are at it we can also ask them to test if a pig can fly :p

no one said it can penetrate a helmet it will be enough force to disract the driver who is potentially driving at 190mph
they arent small marbles either go and look at some of the pictures taken some chunks are fist sized

I like the new tyres. As someone said before, makes a nice change not to know the race result half way in...

lets not forget at some of the really hot races in the past weve seen people open the visor to let the moisture out and fresh cool air in as they go down the straights

no danger at all because the armchair experts at ocuk say its perfectly safe , di resta must have aquired his bruise elsewhere init lads ......
