F1 Season Buildup/Testing/Car Launches

McLaren looks very light on detail especially around the side pods, whether it will eb added to by Melbourne and this is to work on baselines for the coming season is yet to be seen. The livery loooks so plain, just bland slabs.

McLaren are basically doing what Red Bull did last year, start with very basic package at testing and then bring all the go faster bits at Melbourne. Only that Red Bull took much longer last year.

I dunno I'm going to say I actually like it, huge improvement over last years livery, it desperately needs a main title sponser for the side pods though.
I like the clean design around the side pods/barge board area, those are some serious curves, also looks like they have gone super aggressive on the rake.
Was looking at the comparison photos on Racefans.net, is there something interesting going on with the Upper wishbones on the rear? or is that just the angle/shot making it look more than it is?

Obviously not good for the team, but I like the bare look; it harks back to another time before sponsors really became a thing (1967).

From the front it looks gorgeous and the blue works surprising well. Not sure about the blue on the shark fin though.

Some very funky rear suspension with what appears to be a single upper wishbone.

Any word yet on when the FI launch is, and why it's so late and secretive? Reading between the lines from a couple of reports it seems they have had a couple of technical issues with the HALO and passing the tests, and money issues too.

Launching when they make it to testing I believe.

Lots of speculation that there is a take-over/sale possibly going off, with Mallya looking to offload it. I suspect his legal fights and the company name are really toxic with his association (rightly or wrongly) when it comes to international sponsors. So I guess they might be holding off on the rebranding till the takeover is confirmed?
Would be silly to launch a new name, sell, then have to wait a year to change it all again.

One thing that Mclaren have stated regarding the paint is:

The MCL33’s eye-catching primary colour, Papaya Spark, and secondary colours, Burton Blue and Cerulean Blue, were each developed in collaboration with McLaren partner AkzoNobel. The innovative coating systems supplied by the company have enabled the team to significantly reduce the total weight of paint and decrease paint processing time by more than 50%.

Showing off the differences between the Mclaren and Red Bull.

The orange isn't as bright as hoped but it's growing on me, massive improvement over last year and the car itself looks very interesting. Looking forward to seeing it on track :)

We must take in to account that the Redbull picture is doctored in front of the air in take, there is an aero element completely removed, this may make the air intake look bigger then it actually is.
