F1 Technical discussion

Good read that. I stopped reading pitpass a year or two ago, as their news articles were a bit... odd (maybe over opinionated) but that was a decent read.

Lots of new tech updates this weekend from F1.com

Clever stuff. Is this similar to the setup on the McLaren 12C road car? All be it a passive version.

Kind of, but the McLaren MP4-12c had completely independent suspension. F1 cars don't, roll-bars and so on connect one side of the car to the other. MP4-12c doesn't have any rollbars.

It's quite a complicated system to explain. I've worked on a very similar system back in the late 90's for a F1 team that only ran it in a private test. Went over a second quicker, but didn't think it was legal enough to run in the race, so they paid us a very large sum and never used it again.

The version that we had, not only did front/rear but also left/right as well. It was a massive amount of hydraulic lines to run, and added about 7kg to the car over the standard damper setup which wasn't great. The new versions look a lot more compact and slick, but that's 14 years of development there. ;)

Will see if I can find some of the info I had about how it works.

Hopefully not long, that's two great articles 2014 engine and graphene.

Wonder if there's enough money in formula-e to see it there first. With it being all electric surly bigger benefits in electrical conductivity and heat absorption.
