F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

Consider that McLaren pretty much admitted that in the final few races of 2011, they had the best car and that they accept that Vettel was just plain quicker.
Just a reminder that this was a FAKE interview in a BS article which was removed from autosport not long after it was put up.

Was there ever an explanation of what happened there? Clearly the article was wrong in many ways, but Autosport doesn't strike me as the kind of place that plays those silly PR games like some of the other websites?

Nope, no explanation, they haven't officially said what that was all about.

After looking at many youtube videos and I know most of think that Im totally bias regardless me being a huge McLaren fanboi, but I personally think that the McLaren is by far the most stable machine out there ATM.....

They most certainly are that kind of site though.

"The REAL Lotus is back!" Being one headline after Group Lotus started sponsoring Genii. Happened the same month they had a huge quantity of Lotus marketing material with the magazine.... Hmmmm...

Publishing bias information which has clearly been paid for happens everywhere (EVO mag a few months back was just a 100 page Forza advert), but the article about McLaren was just... Wrong. What benifit to anyone was there to having an article up for a few hours stating that McLaren though Vettel was a great driver?

Oh and Shimmy cheers for that vid. Had brought me right up to speed :)

I'm (perhaps incorrectly) assuming the stepped nose will create more downforce (and consequently more drag?).

The step itself, yes, but it will be a negligible tiny amount.

The step is a result of running as high nose as possible, therefore creating as much space under the nose as possible. Air flow under the nose and therefore under and around the floor is a massive area for generating downforce. The step will create a bit of turbulence and drag, but it will be insignificant when compared to how the airflow under the car is worked to the cars advantage.

A lot of teams have worked hard to develop airflow in since 2009 under a high nose. The stepped nose is the best way to comply with the new regulations with as little affect on their nose/floor work from the last few years as possible. The exception is McLaren, who have not developed around a maximum height nose for the last few years, so are able to comply with the new regulation with a lower nose, but without compromising the development progress they have made over the last few years.
