F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

mercedes seem to be doing a filming day :D

Albert Puig Pi @Alb_Puig :
Rosberg is on the track, they are filming...

i guess merc wont have lost all that much testing at all maybe 2 days of the new car but they got 2 days of tyre data in the old car which is about as good anyway

I seriously doubt they could transfer any tyre data from the old car to the new one if there are any significant changes between the chassis (which there sounds like there is).

Filming days are nothing new either. Loads of teams do them. Caterham stayed behind at the Jerez test for one (possibly 2), for example.

And as for that W duct, regardless of wether it is actually on the car or just someone's thinking, its mighty clever, I like it :D

i'd imagine all the tyre data they gather is for the sim they have and im sure its useful data.

teams use filming days as pretty much a private test without prying eyes

The amount of attention that this car is getting and the efforts which Merc are making to hide their car - if this car is anything less than 1s/lap faster than the RBR, it will be a huge let down.

However, until we see this car on the track, we will have no idea how it actually performs. It may yet turn out to be an absolute turkey OR could go on to dominate the 2012 season, giving Rosberg/MSc an easy title win.

My own belief is that this car will slot in behind the top 3 teams, just as it did last year.

based on gravity
how tighly packed everything is around the middle of the car
and how low the sidepods are

Am I missing something? It looks just like every other 2012 car so far

My own belief is that this car will slot in behind the top 3 teams, just as it did last year.

Surely another season like that would be seen as a massive failure? I really hope its not the case for both the 'show' of F1 as a whole, and for Mercedes continued involvement in the sport (they won't want to stick around if they are solidly 4th every year). A 4 team, 8 driver fight for the title would be epic.

Merc stuck around with McLaren despite no title since 1998, doubt they are going to pull the plug in a hurry.

Being an engine supplier is very different to owning your own team. The fact they are being beaten by McLaren still must also be a sore point. They need to perform better or I can see the boss's on high pulling the plug.

5 teams, 8 drivers would be better.

Swap massa for kimi for 8 way shoot out.
Now that would be epic.

I did check SkyBet earlier and I think they have to high of an opinion of Lotus. They have Kimi at the same odds as Webber, and over twice the odds of Schumacher or Rosberg!
