F1 Testing 2012 - Week 1, Jerez

If they are running it in that fashion it would become immediately apparent whilst testing, which is perhaps why they've been holding back and have conducted a private test today too.

Whilst quite intricate it shouldn't take long for rival teams to develop their own if deemed legal, could take a while to perfect though I guess.

Tbf Ankor does have a fair point.......... Merc were heading into the top 3-4 teams towards the end of the 2011 season...... Ferrari are running level if not below Merc through out. The Mid field in my view are Williams, Force India, Lotus, Toro Roso and then the Caterham...... Merc are not the fastest out there, but not far away from it Infact Im convinced that by the end of this season the car will be a ferrari destroyer and a thorn irritating the back legs of Mclaren and Redbull.

they already ran it in suzuka for one of the practice sessions
from october
Auto Motor und Sport added McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says that this technique is difficult to get a grip. Mercedes could have pulled so early with his development beginning in the lottery. "If you make a start now, is already late."

merces rear wing f-duct was already a passive system so they must have a huge headtstart on anyone else.
its rumoured to only be a 5-8kmh advantage though

I really doubt any manufacturer didn't bring their new car to the first test 'as it wasn't ready', it would be planned months ago to do that. They are building the cars for what over six months? So not being ready for the first test but to suddenly have a car ready the following the week isn't what is happening.

Sure, it happens over months. They're not going to be late at the last minute but it's quite possible for them to realise there are delays that would prevent them missing some of the early part of testing because it's not ready even if they know that weeks in advance.

Now we know if you miss testing, you can do a private test. This changes things.
It's not like others where the car simply. Isn't ready as they failed crash testing. They've done a private test with it days after the public testing.

They've done a day of private testing, I don't really see how that makes up for the days they lost running the old car at Jerez.

things we do know.

1, F-duct in suzuka.
2, silverstone video cuts to the steering wheel for all the corners.
3, all of the poor quality mobile phone shots of the car in corners show the front wing at a bizare slant like this

4, its bound to be banned instantly anyway if it really is moving stupid amounts, especially after all the crap about the flexi wing last year.

maybe ferrari were trying the f-duct wing in india or wherever it was when they had the crazy vibrating wing?

Didn't McLaren do something similar last year? Perform tyre tests with the old car to gather useful tyre data, and then test with the new car in later tests. It makes a kinda sense, although - clearly - McLaren don't feel it was worth repeating this year.

and look at the disaster that was (admittedly they tried a wierd exhaust, but then it could be said everything is wierd until proven that it works lol)

All the big teams swear as much milage they can do before the first race is always worth it - so missing a full test on a brand new car cant be on purpose, and it must be because of delays etc imo
