F1 Testing 2012 - Week 3, Barcelona

Or allow them to have customer cars.

Or ditch the aero stuff it will make it cheaper and it will give the car back to the driver
then you will get people like colin chapman come back and Privateers can buy the car and turn up
on a friday to see if they are fast enough for the race..like the goog old days :)

Not really. For years and years Ferrari got exactly what they wanted from the FIA and if they didn't, they threatened the FIA with all sorts.
We all know that in the past, if Ferrari didn't want something to happen, then it didn't.

As my good friend Skeeter would say...

Examples?

Their veto to anything they didn't like that was enshrined in the concorde agreement for years

Or maybe the fact that other teams were giving money to Ferrari for their historical contribution - also in the concorde agreement - Paul Stoddart said it was the most painful cheque he had to write each year.

But no, Ferrari have never had anything their own way as it's Ferrari, and as such as saintly as the chap in the Vatican, who had nothing to do with the convering up of the catholic church molesting children. ;)

[edit]

Aaaand cue dismissal of this, ingoring the facts and reports and saying it was all someone elses fault...

To be fair, Ferrari are just working the political angle. F1 is riddled with politics. Always has...always will be.

As a team (and driver), you have to learn to play the "game". This is something where McLaren are very weak. They attempt to usually play a straight game and they lose out. Then when they do decide to lie/cheat, they get caught. How silly is that?

For sure, RBR have a got away with a lot during the last few years, but that's because they have pushed the limits of what was acceptable/legal and ridden their luck.

Other teams must also learn to step up to the plate or they will continue to get wiped by RBR.

If it were me, I would be complaining and protesting about anything and everything that RBR do. I will probably lose my protests, but that's irrelevant. Just like in 2009 when Ferrari took BrawnGP to Court, they kept the political pressure on that team. If there were any weakness, they would've cracked, but unfortunately for Ferrari, BrawnGP held firm and finished the season as champions.

Off track shenanigans can often decide the direction of the World Championship.

Ferrari get paid more yes, just like Williams and McLaren get paid more than others based on their history in the sport, longer you have been there the more you get paid, but that money comes from the promoter and prize money. So to be clear you are saying Minardi wrote a cheque to Ferrari to pay them to be in F1?

Got any examples of what Ferrari veto'd?

How about the raft of rule changes during the period of Ferrari domination? Why did they not veto any of them?

I would love to see some facts and reports before any can be dismissed. :)

That is correct. The other teams pay Ferrari for their presence in F1.

I am assuming Stoddart means Ferrari get more share of the pot than others, which is well known. Anyway found these great quotes from him.

“There’s talk, and I can’t say if it’s true or not, that the 2005 regulations were written by, among others, 18 people from Ferrari. Believe me, Ferrari are going to win the 2005 and 2006 titles, and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.”

seems like he was maybe just losing it in his battle with the FIA :D

It's a great quote because he does not know if it's true or not, off course he was at war with Max, which probably explains most of his rantings at the time, he wanted to see Max out, what better way than to stir up such things between the teams :D

If that is true (about Ferrari personnel contributing to FIA rules), then it makes Renault/Alonso's achievement all the better.

Not really. Just because someone can contribute or influence the rules of a game/event, doesn't mean that they are going to win the even or even come close.

No doubt if Ferrari had their way, teams would be allowed 3 cars on the grid, and would be able to run V12 engines. Neither of those are going to help Ferrari win anything, anymore than any other of the teams.

It's like those conspiracy theorists in the testing thread, saying that Ferrari will have an advantage if the mid-season test it at fiorano or mugello or similar.

Weirdly considering some of the debate on here just read this on the Ferrari website from Domenicali -

Finally, Domenicali touched on two more purely political topics, the RRA and the Concorde Agreement that expires at the end of the year. “The agreements relating to cost reduction are still valid and we are evaluating if it can be up to the FIA to ensure they are respected, introducing sanctions of a sporting nature. Why didn’t we ask for the checks that were outlined in the agreement to be made last year? Very simple, because we did not want it to sound like an excuse for our performance. As for the Concorde Agreement, I can only say that we are moving forward: maybe, after what happened to the ocean going liner of the same name, we should not call it this anymore,” concluded Domenicali with a smile.

So seems the RRA is still binding, but Ferrari are seeking for it to become part of the rules and not just a FOTA agreement?

He also said a lot of other stuff that seems to backtrack on what Fry said in Barcelona, and that they will be looking to go back to the old exhaust if they can get it working at the Mugello test.
