F1 Testing 2014: Week 2 Bahrain

Well they are over 5 seconds off last years time. IIRC Bahrain has quite long straights. That should help limit the lap time loss of the 2014 cars around this track.

I predict a high 1:34 or low 1:35 as the fasted time once they really get it around this track in the final test.

Great lap by the Hulk...goes top. Only 0.02 slower then the race last year.
And goes even faster then 2013 Bahrain GP fastest lap with a 2014 car.

And Lewis just went out. Is he going for it? and No would be the answer.
Renault powered cars are out of it for today....again

I can't believe they've turned up to another test and can't even get the car out. It's making me very happy though. :D

Well they've done 10 laps including a couple of runs (which isn't bad considering they only started running an hour or so back) and they're only 1.5 seconds off Alonso, who's done 40 laps. It's certainly much more promising for them than Jerez.

Oh FFS, need to clear my OcUK cookies. The latest post button went to the previous page. Sorry!

What a spin :D but to add only 5+ seconds off the Hulk and 4+ seconds off Lewis. Doesn't sound so good now :D

You'd expect them to be miles off with how little running they've done though. They've probably not even used 100% throttle for more than a second or two at time yet, if at all, in 2014.

The point of the post was that every team has their own agenda, none of the them are likely to have gone balls-to-the-wall flat out and it's utterly pointless to draw any conclusions based on times.

I said after Jerez that if RBR can get some decent mileage under their belt here, they'll be fine. It didn't start well this morning, but there are still days left. If it goes smoothly from here, it's promising for them. It they can only do a couple of dozen laps each day, then they've got serious catching up to do.

Vettel is on course to improve again having set two personal best sectors on his current lap, but that effort has been scuppered by another red flag.

Another improvement for Vettel as he gets down to a 1m40.224s, moving him up to P5.

Times mean nothing. This season will be about reliability, and nobody can deny Mercedes have the upper hand in that area.

The RBR could be 3 seconds quicker than anyone else, but unless it can do 60+ laps consistently without going pop, its irrelevant. I'd stay away from predicting anything about RBR (or any of the Renault teams) until we start seeing race simulation distances being covered by them.

Looks like smoke from a hot car but could be his tires.

That rear has got a massive flat spot.

Looks like Williams are having some issues today. Sounds like they got problems with their power train.

Not just a flat spot! looks like a huge hole and the tire has melted from the friction...:O

BBC seem to be indicating it was a turbo issue, no? Not to mention the major burning smell from the engine when it returned to the pits

Good to see McLaren (and Merc) are still up there

There's another on the front right and you can clearly see it's looped around.

Cars smoke when they stop (that could well be coming from the rear brakes, depending which way the wind's blowing), so I'm not reading anything into it yet.
