F1 Testing 2015: Week 2 Barcelona (19th - 22nd)

Red Bull exploited a loop hole where 2 teams could use the same car if it wasn't built by either of them, or any other team. Red Bull Technology built the chassis for the Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso customers. They also claimed they weren't the same as one was running Renault engines and the other Ferrari.

I think it only lasted 1 season and the FIA have since closed the loophole.

Good mileage being done by all teams today, I guess even McLaren when you consider what they've been doing up until now. Hamilton hammering in the laps, be interesting to see if they do a split day tomorrow.

I thought the McLaren pace today, and yesterday, was pretty impressive given the limitations of the engine. They're clearly going to have reliability issues due to the lack of testing, but let's hope the season will be a case of making a fast car reliable rather than the other way around...

He had a trapped nerve. Was reported yesterday that he was uncertain for today.

Ted says that it is caused by Rosbergs new seating position and that he has now gone back to the old position.

Notice that Merc are cool as a cucumber, Ted saying that they are probably running with full fuel, ballast and the wick turned down. Australia is going to be very interesting.

Apparently it was only 1 degree C on the morning of the first day of testing, doubt the F1 cars encounter that very often!

They must get a fair bit more power. I also didn't realise that their development tyre warms up more quickly to deal with the cooler testing temperatures. Never knew that.

The engines have more power if it's colder due to denser air, but they also have to push the car through that air. The cars will have more down force, and more drag, so I imagine that it all evens itself out.

Nope, the (old) end of test days was known as "happy hour" due to the falling temperatures and the track fully rubbered in.

As you say, the only downside is more drag, but you also get the extra power and the extra downforce, and these (apparently) outweigh the drawback.

Any news as to what has stopped the Honda this time? They clocked 12 laps by 11am and don't seem to have done any more running since

*edit*
They're heading back out again, but that is a massively long time of inactivity

This is interesting, re: McLaren:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/31569243

Alonso, who takes the car over for the final day of this week's test, said on Friday evening that he suspected the team would not be ready for the Australian race.

"We will arrive in Australia hoping it was in June or July, but it's in March and I don't know if we will arrive completely ready," the double champion said, "but we will arrive in the best conditions we can. I am happy with the progress we are making."

So, reading between the lines, he seems to think that they are 3 months behind where they should be. McLaren are going from the best engine in F1 to the worst - did McLaren bosses factor this into their plans?

BTW, are bookies still taking bets on Hamilton winning this year's title?
