F1 Testing 2016: Week 1 Barcelona (22nd - 25th)

They almost certainly will. As above post, none of the customer teams are the slightest threat to Mercedes themselves.... but are a threat to other teams and the better they do the better Mercedes do(in business terms for the company as opposed to the F1 team themselves). There is no reason at all for Mercedes to want uncompetitive customer cars to be further hampered by weaker engine options, none. There are only benefits from a Williams finishing 5th instead of 7th, Manor finishing 14th instead of 16th, etc. The better they finish the better for the Mercedes brand. None of them have great cars, none of them can compete and none of them have the driver quality Merc have.

With zero threat Merc only stand to gain from giving them the fastest engines possible and only stand to lose from sabotaging their performance. If Williams/FI were actually potentially competitive with Mercedes themselves it would be a different ballgame. But as is stands they are all massively lower budget, no where near the same quality teams that pose zero threat to Merc. In this situation every possible extra point for them is a potential point off their rivals.

That's the theory, but when it came to it last year they didn't get the major upgrade step that Mercedes introduced. It's something Mercedes could change with each engine change, perhaps between races even, so I assume it's a fluid situation.

Mercedes aren't stupid enough to not cover themselves in the event that team ends up upsetting the apple cart.

That, god damn it, I keep calling it a Lotus in my head... that Renault sounded rough as **** when it brakes. A big pop/bang sound at the start of breaking each time.

EDIT:- I do wonder if they'll find out about this if it gets a lot of coverage and they'll go shut the guy down. There is really no reason they can't put a few streams of various corners on youtube or their own site and just let people watch. Too many idiots think if they provide any coverage it has to be full, like get an entire crew and make dozens of segments to run which they deem too expensive. Doing something stupidly simple and cheap without all the filler crap, just letting those who want to check in watch.... nope.

I did expect the Haas to be draped in the american flag. Fortunately it only has a small one on there

Yeah, saw Manor, red white and blue having previously wondered why Haas didn't go that route.

I mean in american motorsports having red/white/blue isn't a prerequisite, they can't all do it. I did think being the only American team in a worldwide sport and trying to get American fans and playing up the patriotic angle that they might go with that colour scheme.

Hamilton on dry tires and they are putting in decent speed laps now, faster than in race laps last year, 5 seconds off faster time in testing last year. Still, nice to see them ramping up the speed, that is when stuff breaks ;)
