I'll be reporting live (or rather drunk and in the evening) from the track on Monday and Tuesday. Nice to see that Mercedes are splitting their drivers each day.

They're hoping to do as much running as last year and don't want driver fitness issues caused by the more physically demanding cars. They started to have that happen last year with the 'easier' to drive cars with the amount of laps they were putting in.

Any tips for someone that hasn't gone before? I'm going for a day during the 2nd week with a friend.
I'm assuming taking the train is way to go?

Take good walking shoes - there's access to every stand so you can get some photos from different angles. Use the tunnel on the main straight opposite turn 6 to get around a bit quicker. Best places for unobstructed photos IMO are turns 5 and 7 - you can get pretty close at turn 5. You can also get good photos through the fence all around turn 3. The speed on turn 3 should be phenomenal with these new car designs. Turns 13, 14 and 15 give you a really good idea of the quality of the chassis and mechanical grip available on offer - quite simple to see the difference between different cars. However, of course, there's lots of suspected sandbagging going on.

A bit of a toss up to getting there. If there were three of you I'd have suggested just getting a taxi as it works out the same. The train is good but you've still got a little trek from Montmelo to get to the circuit. There were no alcoholic drinks during testing last year and the food was pretty standard fare for an event, so I'd take your own supplies in with you.

I'd also buy the tickets from the circuit website in advance rather than get them on the door. Queues are normally ok but on previous tests, particularly when Alonso is driving, can see hoardes of people and school kids turn up and buy tickets at the gate.

Thanks that's perfect, very handy to know :)

Are you taking your Mavic? Currently I'm planning on leaving mine at home, the only place I might be able to use it is near Tibidabo I reckon to get a view of the city.

I am very very tempted! But there's no chance that they'll let it in the circuit and so the only opportunity would be to do a prairie dog flight from outside. And then I'd have nowhere to store it to get back in other than leave it in the hire car. We've chosen not to stay in Barcelona this time - we've been too many times now - so no city shots. We're staying out at Sabadell instead. There are some nice mountains out there, but on balance I think I'm going to leave it at home.

Can't wait to see the new cars perform on track. Lewis says the new car is brutal on the body in terms of G-Forces.

Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton is expecting to feel the pain, no matter how much he has worked out over the winter break, when Formula One's first pre-season test starts on Monday.
Aching backs and stiff necks are likely to keep the team physios busy as drivers get up to speed at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya and begin to rack up the miles in the shiny new cars.
The gym work and outdoor training, and the kilos of extra muscle added to cope with new regulations bringing significantly faster cornering speeds and greater G-forces, will be put to the test over four days this week.

Was looking forward to being able to watch it on TV today, didn't realise they wouldn't be showing it, is this always the case? Didn't have Sky F1 for any of the previous years testings.

Nope, never has been afaik.
Just a round up by Ted in the evening on Sky.

McLaren aren't going to be running for a few hours now, Honda found an issue in the oils system - difficult access.

Oil system issue for McLaren, needs several hours of fixing. 2016 all over again.
Beaten to it

Red Bull has confirmed that it was a sensor issue which halted Ricciardo's car
