F1

....or excel at something practical, like welding or composite manufacture.

I'm directing these at the 'engineering' end of the scale, rather than driving :)

Depends on what you want to do, a couple of people on here work for teams that participate in F1 I think. Over the last few years I've seen more jobs in CFD and Aerodynamics advertised.

Some motorsport companies advertise on Autosport.

I was just curious, not wanting to be a driver myself , more of the team etc :)

Aerodynamics is way over my head :D

I'd imagine there's a lot in the Media/PR side of things - entertaining VIP's, looking after the media etc.

The F1 world is vast, and there are jobs in almost every forte I'd imagine - so it's a question of picking something and look for jobs or write to teams etc.

hmm didnt think of Media / PR side of it , though the only thing i have is 10 years in retail ..lol

Automotive/Mechanical engineering degree, F1 placement would be handy but hard to get, masters degree would be needed also.

As said, work can be found in engine optimisation and aerodynamics (CFD)

A few years ago myself and a mate took a biking trip to spain and ended up in lloret de mar, unbeknown to us the WRC turned up the next day and set up a podium in front of our hotel. Later that night we got chatting to a member of the subaru pit crew and his job.. and no he wasn't pulling our leg was "the window cleaner". yep his main function and reason for flying round the world with subaru was to ensure the windows stayed clean.. Ok i'm sure he had some other roles, but if your looking for a way into motorsport, someone has to buff hamiltons helmet between races :)
