F1

I work in F1 and almost all people that come through are friends of friends and have great uni background.

I have tried to get into a few F1 teams in the last 5months and didn't get very far with 3 of them. The 4th however, Force India, i was talking to for 3-months about a job and it only fell through right at the last minute. The reason that got so much further than the rest was as i just happened to randomly get an e-mail address from someone who knew my dad. There are plenty of well qualified people who would be more than happy to get into F1 so it seems like getting the right breaks helps as much as anything. As lashout_uk said, who you know not what can often play a part in things.

Believe me it is ALL about who you know and how skilled you are,not what qualifications you have. We have had graduates here who to put it bluntly would get lost in a 1 way street.

Lol well for now i will just keep working hard so that i am well qualified either way and hope someone lets me in and gives me a shot at some point. You don't fancy giving me a job do you? :P

Am still an undergraduate unfortunatly, the posts i was apply for were one year placements between my 2nd and 3rd years of study so am not ready for a postgraduate job yet. If you did have any such posts going they surly would have been filled by now? Thank you though, i will have to wait for now before i can cheekily ask you to send a CV round internally. Unless of course you are aware of anything that would still be appropriate for me at this stage?

So clearly it is about what qualifications you have if you also employ graduates?

Qualifications can vary with the position, if you have the experience you have an advantage (trick is getting the right experience for F1).
Who you know might get you a foot in the door, but you still have to show your worth employing.

For the record, I work for McLaren Electronics on the SECU. We've got couple of software openings, for a person with the relevant experience:

My #1 programmer dropped out from Uni, it just wasnt for hi but he has the ability to take in things quickly, in my view this is the best skill anyone can have.

As usual Fox only reading the points of a post that suit your need to stir up crap. Epic fail as usual
