"Facebook has officially reached one billion active users, Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced.

In an official blog post, he writes:

This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month. If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.

Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life. I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too."

That is some staggering numbers..however I left and deleted my facebook account so they now have 99 Million users. ha! Take that ZUCKERBERG!!

But on the bright side, it means 6 billion people on this planet still have a life. :p

What did Myspace peak at?

It was quite a lot at its height but before the internet was really really popular. I think as it stands now they have about 8 members. Darubio go and join myspace, then they'll have 1,000,008 members.

I have a hard time believing Facebook has 1 billion individual unique users. 1 billion active accounts I can believe. How many of those accounts are part of the collective for trading, I'd be more interested in knowing.

I created a few weeks ago to see what the big deal with, and as I don't have any friends that are facebook users, I just couldn't really find a point for it. With twitter I follow interesting people, tech journalists and such just so I can combine all their tweets into 1 stream without tweeting anything myself, but with facebook I just haven't seen much use for me.

At least Google+ has some interesting content on it, facebook from the little I've seen of it so far is people spamming likes to enter competitions, stupid companies thinking likes make them a better company, and people posting pictures of their lunch.

The maths is weak in this one...

It's quite staggering really. 1 in 7(ish) worldwide.

When you exclude China (banned), it drops to about 1 in 6 (ish)...

Twitter is just a fancy RSS feed. Facebook is something interesting... Also, seriously... Dist how do none of your friends have facebook! See the above stats! xD

I have 1 or 2 close friends that I actually would care about the sort of stuff they say, neither uses facebook although 1 uses twitter. I have a few other friends but not close enough to care about the things they put on facebook.
