Faggots

I used to have them as a kid so one day in Iceland I saw a pack of Mr Brains and said to missus "I'm getting some of these as I used to eat them all the time", jesus they made me wretch, had to throw my dinner away and make some nice tasting meat, guess that's why I always seem to remember them drenched in mint sauce.

We have Brains Faggots now and again. Cooking them is a bit of an art - if you follow the instructions on the packaging you'll end up with six scorched cinders. I normally take them out the freezer two or three hours beforehand to defrost a bit, then cook in a medium oven (180C) for around 40 - 45 mins. That usually ensures everything is piping hot including the gravy, not burned or still cold in the middle which makes them taste foul.

Actually, I'm amazed the "PC" brigade hasn't insisted the product renamed so it doesn't offend LGBT types... :)

There's a butcher shop in town that sells them as ready to eat products (cooked then chilled), they're quite nice, they're labeled as 'savoury ducks', I didn't realise they were faggots until I looked it up, it's the only ones I've tried, haven't tried different ones from different places/brands, any good ones?

If you like them like that you should try and find Haslet as well love that stuff.

Prompted by this thread I bought some faggots from the butcher yesterday and had them for dinner with mash and peas. It's the first time I've had them in ages and they're just as tasty as I remembered. Delicious!

Oh my word Faggots -We used to kick living daylights out of them (kiddin) -- We used to have them as kids as it was all Mom could afford - I love them with mash and mushy peas and thick gravy - And as a earlier poster said - like Haggis in a way -I like them to. - Not sure if wife likes them or had them - she came from a more well to do family than me - They had spam. ;) Her dad worked at Longbridge. Only the oldies will know where that is.
