To be honest it doesn't really need answering; it's just a mini-meme that got old the instant it became one. It'll die out like every other fad given time.

It's not so much the word that annoys me; rather the people who parrot it mindlessly at every opportunity thinking it's funny (though the same goes for every other meme I guess).

meh i dont mind the fail thing when used appropriately such as with a bad joke or really moronic thing + very occasionally there is a fail picture that in genuinely funny
