Failed my driving test today

Unlucky but try not to get down about it, you'll pass next time (and even if you don't it doesn't matter it's just annoying!). It took me 3 attempts.

I very nearly stacked the car into the gatepost of the test centre on the way back in. Still passed 1st time though :D

The driving test should be a 3 strikes policy, fail them all and you never drive.

All fine up until about 100 meters away from the test center. Last roundabout. I am positioned in the correct lane as the lane to my left is left turn only. I pull out and see a 4x4 in the mirror not turning, i give them a bit of leeway as they had a horsebox and might need to take the turn a bit wide. All of a sudden she guns it and fly's past me. I started braking as soon as i saw she wasn't turning but sadly the examiner had used the brake. Gutted. 6 minors up to that point and I fail on the last roundabout. Typical. Anyone else got a story like this?

Strikingly similar story to yours actually, I hadn't moved into the left lane to turn off to the test centre (wasn't overly familiar with the roundabout + traffic). Just before reaching the turning I realised I'd have to turn off, so checked mirrors, and indicated, all without problem.

But the examiner failed me because he said the car in the correct lane also turning off had to slow down. Which is a farce in a sense, because any time you're on the road there are instances you have to give way to drivers out of courtesy or necessity. It wasn't a dangerous maneuver on my part, people change lanes on roundabouts all the time.

All in all it gives you more time practicing your driving for the 2nd test, and experience is key at the end of the day.

So if you'd not slowed down and turned off the roundabout doing 30, thereby not impeding the other car, would that be ok then :D I think his judgement there was that there was not enough time, ie. indicating while moving ?

I know someone who failed for pulling over for a ambulance. They indicated and slowed down and since it immediately overtook they carried on but apparently thats bad

As a second time passer, I thought you'd have known what to do when faced with an emergency vehicle behind you? ;)

I have my test on Monday. Relatively confident although I seem to be good at pulling out on people on roundabouts, junctions etc so we'll see how it goes lol.

Be patient. If unsure at a roundabout, just take it slow, be extra cautious with mirros etc and then go.

I was annoyed at why the instructor failed me on my first time as well.

I was driving down a country road. Limit was 30mph. I was doing he speed limit. I come to a bend and take it, obviously slowing down for the bend ( basicaly just taking it normally) but as i come round the bend there are idiots overtaking horses on the other side of the road. I brake hard ( no dramas, skidding or anything, just braked firmly) and came to a stop to let the idiots finish their dangerous overtaking of the horses.

The instructor fails me because " Even though i was adhering to the limit e.tc. he thought i was oging a little bit too fast on that road"

i can garauntee that if those idiots werent overtaking in a stupid and dangerous position, i would have passed/he never would have mentioned it.

Even more annoying is that fact that I thought i had reacted really quickly and made the situation a non-issue as well when it happened.

^^ Sounds like you were safe (especially in a modern car) but if the road is bordering on single track at all then strictly speaking he might be right, they arent reasonable is the bottom line really. 20mph with pedestrians as a rule is one thing I do remember from my useless instructor

What was the 2nd fail for then, minors or major ? I was told I'd failed for not changing gear enough (wtf) but he said he'd let me off and pass me anyway. How 3rd gear at 30mph in a Micra is inherently dangerous I dont know

Failed my first. Someone walked out in front of me. I slammed on the brakes. Apparently I should have predicted it more so...

Had a friend who failed on the last roundabout though. Someone pulled out on them.

Pfft I passed my driving test first time. As well as my motorbike test, PPL, CPL, IR and ATPL flight tests :D
