Failing Hard drive / Raid array

My Intel Storage manager keeps telling me that disk 2's status is: Error Occurred.

Occasionally it fails to boot, i do a system restore and its fine.

I've verified the raid array using the intel storage manager and its all came back good, but I think there may be an issue with one of the disks.

They are two Samsung Spinpoint F1s.
Ive looked at the samsung disk analysis and it seems to be a PITA to use if you dont have a floppy disk.

Does anyone know of any software I can use for disk dianostics, testing an d repairing?

I've noticed the samsung hard drives (HD753LJ) are prone to raid problems with an older version of firmware?Clicky.

However, im using the 1TB, so thats of no interest to me at the moment, but I do wonder if this applies accross the board to other models?

Anyway, I deleted my raid array, built a new one and it seems fine for now (touch wood).

I would highly recommend you test each drive individually if you have had problems as this could be masking a bigger underlying issue, like a failing drive.

I had lots of raid issues with a pair of 640GB F1 drives, in the end I changed them for a pair of 1TB F1 drives, and have had no problems since. It is also worthwhile changing the sata leads as I have found many to appear to give problems. It is always worthwhile removing the 'cheap to fix' problems first as a precaution. The other thing that is worthwhile is swapping the cables, the raid array will work fine, but if your problem moves to disk 1 then you know it is a disk problem.

Try a different sata cable before you commit to new drives.

I thought one of my 36gb raptors was on the out only to discover I'd trapped a sata cable and damaged it.

Don't ask...!

Unfortunately it was only when I went to install the new 74gbs I found the problem.

:/
