Fails to boot.

Hi, i'm having PSU issues.

On another thread I said I already have these;

Here is my current build (What I already own);

The problem is, that GPU has 2 6 pin power whilst my PSU only has 2 4 pin. On the box it also says requires 500w PSU. Why did people spec me this? or am I doing something wrong?

Hi, the 4 + 4 pin lead is for the CPU power.

You should have a 6 pin (plug into GPU) and a 6 + 2 pin (plug the 6 pin into GPU).

From what I've read that 450w should be fine, but personally I'd not recommenced less than a fairly decent 500w.

Your PSU is fine for that card, XFX make a good range of PSU

The PSU has 1 x PCI-E 6 PIN & 1 X PCI-E 6 + 2 for the GPU.

should I have a 6 pin for gpu and a 6 pin+2 for the gpu. because I can only find the 6pin+2, on boot the gpu fans spin...but I can't get output, no matterwhat gfx I set in bios.

I've searched multiple times and can only find the 6+2 pin. I'll take the PSU out tonight and see if it's hiding behind anything.

I'm home from work now. I took the PSU out hoping I was just blind and didn't see it. Definitely only 1 6+2 pin pcie

Hmm, looking at the review here you can see all the cables which come with the PSU.

It has 1 x 4 & 1 8 pin for cpu power as well as the 2 PCI-E Cables.

can you count the amount of leads coming of the PSU and possibly take a pic with all the cables stretched out.

I just plugged it all back in! haha

All the main cables were in the first picture - the rest were just sata power.

Do you have all the paper work that came with the Psu, you should have a list of all the cables and what they are for. Seems strange as all reviews and the XFX specs say 1x6 pin and 1x6+2 PCI-E cables.

Nope

Got it 8 months ago and threw the box away after a month (silly me, but dont have the space), didn't check for things like that (mainly because I didn't know graphics cards needed 2 pcie power connectors)

I still have the overclockers order on my account, ao at least I have some sort of evidence that I bought it.

Perhaps you've got an older revision of the PSU that doesn't have the extra PCI-E cable.

You could always run it with a molex to PCI-E adapter though.

So despite getting the older version of the PSU, if I get the molex to PCIe adapter - will it run everything ok powerwise?

Yeah, if you use the one PCI-E cable and the other with the adapter.

Or you could ask ocuk if they'll exchange your PSU - it's possible I guess that you've got a defective one missing a cable

Past the 14 day period for returns. Not a problem though. I have bought molex to 6 pin adapter. Now just have to wait till it arrives.

If the PSU has a cable missing you can get it replaced past the 14 day period as that'd be a fault.

Since I don't have the original packaging then I doubt i'll get a replacement. Also, Overclockers already told me it's past the 14 day period.

If I have any trouble with the molex adapter and really need a new psu, I will put a bit more effort into getting a replacement.

Yeah, they can't say they won't replace something missing an attached part because it's past the 14 days. Just post in the CS forum if you want it replaced and reference this thread, since it's all explained.
