Failure of the Year

I don't know about a debate, it seems fairly clear-cut to me :) I'm not a Newcastle fan but I'd say Souness is head and shoulders above the rest when it comes to being a failure as a manager. If Roeder can turn Newcastle into a semi-decent team with the same players then that tells me all I need to know about Souness, no disrespect to Roeder but his record is hardly startlingly good either, hopefully he can do a good job though.

For me its hard to look past Souness.
I have to agree, all his talk about injuries was soon blown out the water once Roeder starting picking the team, and maybe more importantly, doing the team talks.

Steve Bruce would probably be my second choice, he was also moaning about injuries but they must have one of had one of the biggest squads in the PL last season. He looked like he had no motivation in him, which was showing in his teams performances.

I think picking on SWP and Sunderland is a bit harsh. SWP didn't get picked to play much and when he was, he was expected to be amazing. He needed a good run to get into the team IMO. As for Sunderland, they never had the right quality of players to make a good go of staying up. All the coaches can do is try and get the best from what they have. They had effort, just not the talent.

souness was very unlucky with newcastle as he had quite a few injuries at the time, but then again when he was at liverpool he sold off some of there good players so i think that he has failed to take newcastle anywhere really. Not knocking newcastle but they have underacheived for a few years now (like liverpool untill last season) hopefully next season both teams can do better!

Chelsea - I know, sounds odd, but...

Twice in 2 seasons they have had English clubs which are far weaker in general progress further in major competitions. Guess another £50m plus needs to be spent.

However, notable mentions to:
Graeme Souness - Spent and spent and actually had Newcastle take a step backwards.
Shola Ameobi - Had a chance to finally prove himself and merely proved what people thought all along.
Darren Fletcher - As above.
Paddy Vieira - Left a club to progress his career and actually missed out on a European Cup final getting beaten by his old club in the first leg, getting booked and missing out on the 2nd leg all together.
SWP - Could have gone to Arsenal or Liverpool and been a God, instead claims competition will make him play better, then takes steps backwards and becomes 4th choice at Chelsea. Gets 1 game back against Newcastle and does his cause no good by revealing he is infact a diver.

manager: souness
player: essien

essien hasn't impressed me at all to justify his 28m(?) price tag. i agree its unfair to say SWP a failure in a season where hes hardly played :)

Absolutely spot on.

Could possibly add Drogba. Confirmed to the entire world he's a complete scumbag, and talentless at that.

Well Vieira has a Serie A title to his name, and Chelsea narrowly lost to the winners of the Champions League, so I'm not quite sure how either of those two go down as complete failures.

Oh, and Paddy didn't leave, he was sold.

It was his choice, he handed in the transfer request.
Fact is, Chelsea should have won atleast the FA Cup. It also wasn't as narrow as people made out against Barcelona, Barcelona controlled from the first minute of the first game to the last minute of the 2nd leg. Arsenal gave them more of a game.

Perrin was a good shout up there somewhere ^^^^

I would also like to add Luque to the list, but other than that i agree with Nok

Apparently Tony Adams has got a third leg

In fact im sure i remember something about Veeeairah talking about TA's wang
saying he had the biggest salami in the dressing room

Southern puffs :p
