Failure of the Year

I think Reyes would have deserved the failure tag last season, after failing to deliver in his first full season, but I think he's improved this year, even if he's not been sensational.

Really, he hasn't hit any of the form he's promised and has looked about the equal of Hleb (who cost a third/half of the fee), but that's hardly a bad thing, and I think he's a decent player myself.

I think Reyes and Hleb transfers fees are very similar, as around £7m of Reyes transfer was based on apps/success. IIRC £2m on winning the Champions League.

im sure someone worked out that cost per goal stead was better value than owen, dunno if thats right or not :D

Owen £2.4m per goal Stead 900k per goal

The Prem handouts from the two different finishing positions and the Magpies actually being in it next season probably balances those figures out a bit more too I'd imagine. Not to mention that I doubt many kids will be running out in their John Stead shirts for PE. ;)

general failure has to be midland footballl - villa were poor, blues and wba go down. wolves fail to go up. pretty dismal.

steve bruce deserves a mention for getting too big for his boots and getting big name players with no hunger to play and perform. let them be a warning to teams like wigan, west ham et al!

Why is Luque the biggest failure of the year? He's had a major injury and barely had a good run in the first team. There's been plenty of players worse than Luque in the Premier League.

Go on then dude, barring SWP and Essien, whos been a bigger buy and been utter **** ?

If you mean bigger as in height than i'll throw Rasiak into the mix! ;)

Bigger in spending power you can't really go any further than the above Chelsea pair, what club can really out bid them for transfer fees now.

I was going on people that have been failures

imo other than the two players i mentioned, Luque has been the biggest failure for me

If your not talking money its got to be Jon Stead

Failing to win a cup competition hardly makes them failure of the year in my book - they have dominated the Premiership, reached a cup final and were only knocked out of the Champions League by the champions. They are the only team in Premiership history to obtain over 90pts in a season multiple times and also produced the best home record ever (P19 W18 D1 L0).

Which cup final?
Carling Cup - Man Utd vs Wigan
FA Cup - Liverpool vs West Ham
European Cup - Arsenal vs Barcelona

For a start it doesn't have to be a signing this season.

I'll give you some buys even if that's want you want you've been worse than Luque- Ellington, Bellion, Baros, Bouma, Jenas, Andy van Der Meyde, Josemi, Kronkamp, Sutton, Benjani.

Only 2-3 of them were big buys dude, ill give you Baros and VDM the others
have been **** for years

How did Kromkamp get on your list ?
He's been here 4 mts ,whilst doing nothing special has done nothing much wrong either (bar one dive,so ridiculous that it was funny ) He was a swap for the hopeless Josemi too,so more like bargain of the season than flop tbh :)

Biggest failure manager wise this season you can be really perverse and say Fergie or Mourhinio. Hear me out on this one. For the money Chelsea have spent the self proclaimed special one has taken them from second place under Ranieri to Champions is not an overwhelming return for the money invested. Especially when you consider the scouting network has widened, They nearly have doubled their coaching staff. With that money in my back pocket and the set up you have you would be hard pushed not to win the Premier League even with Ronald McDonald as manager

I also look at Ferguson as well. Two cups in three years is not good enough. I also question his insistence with playing the boring 4-5-1 mullarky at the start of the season when nearly 65,000 week in week out are shouting for the 4-4-2 to return. Hey presto we go on a good run when we do play 4-4-2. Also his insistence to play Fletcher week in week out who really has trouble passing wind let alone ball to feet.

Player wise I look at Vieira. A coward in my book. Started opening his mouth about all sorts of players only after he moved to Juve. Other include Darren Fletcher, Essien and maybe even RvN. Ruud you are not bigger than the club mate.

For me possibly beckham and real madrid, 3 seasons now and no trophys. I bet they're happy with extra money beckham is bringing in though.

Can't agree with that.

Beckham has been consistently excellent for Madrid throughout his time there. Surely past their best players like Zidane, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos are more to do with Madrid's failure to win trophies?
