Will boot up anyhow, no matter if a mainboard has dual channel or not, you can place ram in any slots you want, placing in otehr slots than the colour combo disables dual-channel mode tho...


Take out bios chip. (will power on, but no screen output)
Plug out 4 pin extra power... (will power on, but no screen output)
Displug pwr button. (wont power on)
"forget ram'' (will power on, no screen...)
etc...
Many many ways...
 
I guess it depends on how obvious you really want it to look.. Im guessing you dont want it looking too obvious, so they wont fix it :D :p
 
set the graphics to boot from the PCI slot rather than AGP/PCI-e, or pull the ram and put it back in so its only just in but no incontact.

or take the fuse from the plug.
 
take out the power button and put it in wrong slot and replace fuse with blown one, this means if he figures out the power button one he will still think he hasn't done anything and might put it back in original place lol
 
-Unscrew the live wire from the plug.
-Cut the actual wire off (so there's just insulation)
-Put insulated wire back in and tighten.

Even if he looks at the plug and replaces the fuse - Would never get it. :p
(But would be kinda obvious)
 
how about just put a high fsb or something in there so it wont boot?

unless he knows about bios clearing he's screwed?
 
Un-Fuse the power lead - god this is the most simple thing that has taken me way to long to figure out! lmao

oh dont leave the bios jumpers on 'clear' on older boards can cause breakage :)

The upside down power switch connector should work, I did it on my first build and passed a brick when nothing happened.

Try it yourself first :)

...and take out the fuse ;)
 
I`d go for the fuse out of the plug... if you say theres something wrong with the computer for instance

'It started and couldn`t detect the drives, then after a restart it started but wouldn`t post, so you tried again and it showed there was no signal and it wouldn`t even post, then you tried again and it just won`t do anything now'

Because it started a couple of times he`s going to be thinking its the computer and won`t even try the plug. This way theres nothing missing from in the computer, everything is as it should be and he'll declare a dead mobo or something.
 
Computing "Which?" magazine did something like this the other day just to see how stupid the people are who work in that useless rip off high street pc store. They removed a couple of files from Windows so it would'nt boot on half the pc's and loosened the hdd cables on the other half. They got estimates from £20-260 for fixing the software problem and £10-139 for the hard drive "problem". A London branch said that the software problem was the result of a corrupted hard drive and wanted £350 to fix it. They were even advised that it would be better to buy a new pc for £500.

"Which" magazine was astonised at the varying level of Know-how (or not) from store to store. This was in Wednesdays Daily Mail. It certainly gave me a laugh. All they had to do was ask us.

There you go then. Loosen the hdd cable or remove an important windows file.
 
tbh, my m8 I was at college in dropped out (at his managers advice) to take up a full time job in the purple shirt shops repair department. he's running one of them now and still knows nothing about PCs
 
Remove all the hardware from inside the pc and just throw the power chord and mouse/keyboard leads in to the back of the case, then glue the case doors on tight... then glue all the hardware on the ceiling, see how stupid he is trying to get the case open with the hardware on the ceiling, film it and put it on youtube, post link here :)

Removing all internal hardware and gluing the case shut is a good one ;)

I got plenty to go on now thanks.....plus its given me a giggle for a while.
