Just wondering, When your asleep and you feel like you've just fallen out the sky and landed on your bed, what does it mean or what has happened for that to happen ?

Who knows?! Last time I had a falling dream, it involved donkeys, camels and Cameron Diaz.

I still don't understand what the heck the dream was about.

I think it's got something to do with your emotions re: life at the moment. Are you stressed? Frustrated at work?

It happens a lot to me, it's something to do with your brain and motor functions messing up as you enter REM sleep.

I've heard it's your bodies reaction to get you to wake up. Apparently, you always wake up before you hit the ground, if you don't you die, or something.

I don't know if there is any validity to this though.

Very common dream. I believe my old English teacher said its a dream often to do with Stress.

Exams maybe? Hard time at work or with relationships?

I'm gonna be all Freudan here :D

It seems like you're falling, which could be interpretated as you're losing or feeling out of control of your life.

Does no one read my posts? :(

It really is because you're "Falling" asleep.

End thread :p

It's called a hypnagogic jerk or “Hypnic jerk” - it's when your body has fallen asleep but your brain hasn't or something. Something to do with your motor neurones IIRC.

I'm not sure what it supposed to mean but its happened to me plenty off times. I know the jolt you get just as you wake up is from a reflex as the body brasses its self for the impact it thinks is about to happen(yea thats realy gonna help break a 100ft fall :/ ). But then as my favorite freudian quote states, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

I don't believe dreams are meant to mean anything other than you viewing your subconcious.

I dreamt I ate strawberries off Rachel Steven's stomach and then a panda bear gave me money for doing it.

Find a hidden meaning in that guys!

Lol. Must say I've never heard "Cause of death: Failing to wake up while dreaming about falling"

I read its a leftover trait from when we were somewhat more ape-like...its meant to stop you dying from falling out of trees when asleep.

Well no, as morticians wouldn't be able to read your last dream.

But lots of people die in their sleep ;)

Just enough time to wake up and go "Oh ****!" followed by *splat*?

have people who hit the ground and died told you this?
are you one of these people
if so... seek help :p

That falling experience is really strange, I wake up with a jump as if I just landed.

Whats worse is dreaming that there is a spider next to your head, waking up and doing a diving roll off your bed and spending the next 10 minutes searching for a spider in your bed totally convinced that there is something there. Its happened to me more times than I can count.
