Not sure whether this should be in general discussion or on here as it's gaming related. I have a gaming PC, PS4, WII U modded and an xbox one S.

And I've found lately I just cant sit down and grind a game out. Maybe 2-3 years ago I could smash hours on skyrim, witcher, warcraft etc. I rent games from boomerang and I've become a bit of a joke in my social group because I never complete a game, some jokes go as far as I wont even complete the installation lol.

I rented south park, horizon and I've given up within maybe 20 mins, I'll return to fifa, rocket league or call of duty and I guess it's the whole playing against someone in a short space of time. But I play my games all night jumping from one machine to another without being able to settle..

I'm just wondering have people gone through the same situation. It's frustrating in general, even more so when you know something just isn't right.

It happens, just pick up another hobby for a while.

I got back into gaming with the Switch after not playing single player games for many years (GameCube days).

I have lost a lot of interest in single player games....it has to be really good to keep my attention. Its the open world type which just lose me so so quickly. Zelda for eg to me was a mind numbing chore to play.

My favourite game is Rocket League at the minute, just so easy to pick up and play :).

Yeah I really enjoy rocket league

I suppose when I mention my social circle, most of my gaming buddies are on maybe once a week compared to say 6 hours a day a few years back due to children, partners and jobs..

Playing online on your own is so boring!

Happens to me all the time

As I'm getting older I just find my ability to stick with a game is getting lower and lower. Few years back I'd smash hours into games - but now I just want a quick jump in and get on with it game, I do find really good story driven games can just about hold my attention.

Games like Rocket League, Wipeout , GT Sport, Pool games, pinball etc are really holding my attention. I've also gone back to previous hobbies to break things up, and that has helped. I guess its just the old saying of getting older.

I suffered with this several years ago as I only play single player games, but found that by playing radically different genres when I play a new game, and jumping through the years I can avoid it these days. Giant Steam backlogs and not caring much about graphics in old games really helps too.

Also systems like Humble really allow you to try a massive range of experiences really easily.

Comes and goes for me.

With the purchase of the Switch this year I have spent a lot more time playing both single player and online games. I don't socialize and I am OK playing on my own. If I get bored I move on. In the week I play in short bursts for maybe an hour or so then at weekends perhaps I have more time for an RPG or something story driven. Also with the portability of the Switch I can play outside of these times if I am travelling, waiting or having a lunch break at work. For instance over the last couple of weeks I played through the campaign of Resident Evil Revelations purely on my lunch hour sat in the car. I had a great time and maybe would never have played it otherwise - it suits my lifestyle right now. On the other hand I played some AC: Origins this morning on my XB1 and quite enjoyed what I played. One for the weekend I think.

If the games are good enough you'll want to play them. If not meh, do something else :)

Been gaming as long as i can remember on way or another .. I find it hard as I approach 50 to get into it tbh.. I love it once i get going, but i find the attention span is a lot less than it used to be.

I'm also finding that all these games coming out they there has to be so many money grabbing DLCs etc.. It kind of makes a mockery of the whole thing..

Agree - but also lately so many games coming out, and if you wait a few months huge updates are coming out which adds so many features - I just look at these games and feel I'm missing out playing them now, so shelf them, or not even buy them. Gaming has changed a lot, and its not like when I was 25 and the PS2 was the console everyone owned and games shipped completed - bugs and all, and you knew what you got on the disc was the final game

GT4 on PS2 was shipped and finished. GT5/6 on PS3 had a huge number of updates, but nothing like GT Sport on PS4 which with each update is just growing the game. Makes me not want to play it night now. Before on PS2 I'd get GT games and play the life out of them the day I got it, now, its like I'm waiting for the game to be completed before I even bother.

I think the last few games Ive completed are ones I've completed before. Hell I waited ages for crash bandicoot and just put that to one side.

Yep, 26 now and play a lot less than when I was 14 or so! Tbh stopped a lot of gaming when I was at university as got better things to do... Now I just have more work :x

Still get around 5 hours a week into rainbow six siege or destiny 2 (and the odd bit of battlefield). I almost exclusively play online now.

Funnily enough I did most of my gaming during uni years due to gaps between my classes.
22 now on full time employment and I'd be lucky to get 1hr of gaming a night during the week.

Ive just turned 30 but for example, I'll get home around 9pm tonight and probably put some game on.

What do you do with your evenings lol

Comes and goes for me aswell, though I'm always chasing it! It's just much more difficult to switch off as an adult I think, I'm always gaming and thinking about all the stupid chores I should be doing instead. Occasionally games get through my grown-up shields though, FFXV I played about 60 hours and Destiny aswell (solo I might add!).

I think having a dedicated space for it would really help me, but it's not very girlfriend safe :(.

I game a lot less now than I used to. I tend to buy a game, absolutely hammer it for a few days. Then put it to one side and never play it again. :p I’m 31 btw.

Two exceptions in which I’ve played a few hundred hours on each, are Elite Dangerous, and destiny 2.

I’m going to fire up elite dangerous now as it happens :D

I went through a stage of just staring at my steam list. I essentially had too much time for it.

Gaming everyday was standard

These days I'm far more busy with work, holidays, football etc

Gaming feels like a well earned break now and something I look forward to and not for granted.

Yeah I struggle to convince myself that in game stuff matters.
When it feels like it doesn't matter, the whole thing seems like a waste of time and money.
Which of course is it, if you're not enjoying it.
