Fallout 3 Prepare for the Future

I think this is going to be immense. Really loved Fallout tactics and watching the videos, although it seems to be moving away from what it started out as, I reckon that it will work out for them. Looks a bit like they've had a look at Mass Effect and the FPS/RPG system there and built on that.

Having now watched those videos, I'm very dissapointed.

Having the option to autoaim at different parts of the body does not "give it that fallout feel" at all; mainly because it's more like a bloody FPS than anything else.

It may be a great game, but did they have to drag one of the greatest franchises ever into it? This is not GTA, where 2d to 3d was a natural progression. :(

sigh game uses the same gamebyro engine that was used in oblivion

dont expect to be able to play it at high settings till around a year after release :(

Ahh my fellow glittering gems of hatred. To put it bluntly ever since bethesda confirmed their ownership of the franchise I've been sayin' t'is gonna be Complete **** compared with the awesomeness of 1 & 2. TBH we should boycott the game until bethesda get their act together and make a proper RPG!

there where only 25 in fallout 1...

10 page preview in PCZ this month.

they were pretty impressed by it.

changes what i dont like no inventory etc

? thats strange no inventory? are you sure? in the preview i read Porter spent a lot of time wandering around collecting garbage and bits n pieces and bartering with folk etc.

no loading zones edit: sod it its good ole Oblivion loading zones :/ (Towns and Buildings are zoned like in Oblivion (load times between each, etc). )

V.A.T.S. combat system is apparently very very good
quests much more in-depth than Oblivion
More Dialogue heavy (better voices than Oblivion which wouldnt be hard)
one quest reward is a house which you can decorate, furnish etc and you get a robot butler with it!

You can also cannabalise parts from different weapons to help you repair them.

Does the AI suck as much as it appears in the gameplay videos?
Yes, unfortunately, it’s one of the main faults of the full version of Fallout 3. The mobs are totally stupid, with NPCs that flee in the direction of their aggressors, enemies that find themselves running on the spot, blocked by a too-low platform ( enabling me to re-arrange their faces during combat), rats that charge you so close as to bump into you then jumping up and down in a vain attempt to cause you harm. It is the one point that Bethesda should be taken to task over.

And even mroe crap that should have been solved in the 90's

hopefully things like AI are still being tweaked then...

but curiously the guy in that report (from nma-fallout) said

Are the weapons customizable, are there different ammo types (I’m dreaming I know)
From what I saw, no. The weapons are limited to a list, it does not seem possible to combine them with other inventory items. I did not find any different ammo types during my playthrough.

i'll just quote a bit from the preview in PCZ
What i certainly didnt have was many decent armaments apart from a purloined sniper rifle with no ammo, a crap hunting rifle, a dodgy Chinese pistol, and a machine-gun that was gradually breaking down, becoming increasingly ineffective. At this point i didnt know i could cannabilise parts from weapons i picked up and use my repairs skills to fix my guns

what would be the point of cannabilising parts from weapons if you couldnt combine them with other weapons?

apart from the AI. The only other things which are dissapointing me slightly are zero weather variations and possibly the landscapes might just be too boring (in their attempt to provide atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world ie a empty wrecked landscape)

edit: also i'm not going to be too chuffed if it is a barren landscape littered with lots of "oblivion-like" repetitive dungeons.

because it's just a more complicated version of the "repair skill" ie you can take broken gun a take part from identical broken gun B and replace it in gun A, not take scope from sniper rifle and stick it on a pistol.
