Fallout3 DLC - Its Here!!

I think for this i'll buy some MS points off my mate. I wont use excess and this points system is more of a put off than anything else.

I think they are being lazy :p

But to the arguing, why should a console owner who spend more money on the game itself have to pay for DLC when pc gamers who pay less for their software get it free?

Was never gonna happen and anyone who thinks otherwise is naieve(spelling).

Once you have downloaded the content through GFWL can you back up the installer so you dont have to re-download it every time you reinstall the PC?

Because in general, over the years PC gamers have been more discerning and expect value for money, not value that MS tells them is value...

I own consoles and PC, so I see clearly the discrepancy in percieved value. It's kind of ironic isn't it? How MS and othe big console publishers rip off console gamers with higher prices and yet still complain piracy is more rampant on PC, with cheaper prices....should be the other around shouldn't it? Piracy should drive prices up. Thats what the publishers have been warning about for years...

IOW, console-centric publishers are full of BS :) It's up to consumers whether they want to fall for it or not, and it appears they ARE falling for it.

I have to say this seems very expensive for what it is. I really don't like all this MS points either its most probably a tax and fee scam for MS

I can't believe this tread has almost 100 replies with not one by anyone that has actually downloaded and played the content.

Is it any good?

I am happy to pay for anything if I feel it is value for money but personally I am only interested in the third DLC package but I have to say I am 100% unimpresed with having to buy microsoft tokens and by the sound of it having to buy 20% more than I need. Hopefully by the time the third part is out they will have released it somewhere else where I can buy it for cash.
I bought it and it does not work so far due to the DRM. I have it installed properly all the files are there I have GFWL running but the quest never shows up ingame. I can copy the data files to my main Fallout3 folder to play it that way from the launcher but then it crashes all the time as the DRM checks expect it & the licensing file to be in another DRMed location. Couple of guys in the US have got it working but thats about it. No-one from other regions has even got it working yet:eek:

All these arguments about the cost are stupid as it gives you at least 2-3 hours minimum for around £6.10 thats less than a cinema ticket nowadays.

Then the argument about why you have to buy points well thats the method they choose to use so what. All 3 DLC cost 2400 points so as you can only buy in blocks of 1000+1000+500 you would have 100 points left over after buying all the DLC. 100 MS points=approx £0.77p!!

You can backup the files as the folder is approx 566MB but it will not help as the licence file is created when you download it specific to that PC. However, you can redownload it as many times as you want once you have bought it and even use it on different PCs as long as you use the same GFWL account to play it & stay connected to GFWLIVE.

no chance ill buy this - trying to turn their product into a cash cow. if they want to make more money make a proper expansion or at least make the DLC value for money (pounds / hour was better on F3 than the DLC from the sounds of things)

IMHO - its EA being EA

Got it working now. Definately worth the massive sum of £6.10 if your a Fallout 3 fan. You will get at least 3-4 hours out of it max if you explore and do not speed run it with cheats on. Theres about 15-20 mins worth of new locations & gameplay in the main Fallout 3 world then you enter a VR sim for the ice world.

£8.50 = 1000 MSP

850(pence) / 1000(points) = 0.85(pence per point) x 800 = £6.80 (680p) cost for the DLC.

Sorry but that money is going towards my copy of DoW2.

If any one is looking for where the main files for the pack are to back them up they are located

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Xlive\DLC

don't know if its different for vista.

You seem pretty to really dislike GFWL, what don't you like about it? Other than the Ms points business its really good.

You being serious?! Its a waste of time and a joke. You cant save your game in GTA IV without a GFWL account - why the hell did they think that was a good idea?!

Its more bloatware thats unnecessary and since microsoft brought out that 360 its had an adverse effect on the pc community. Wish they would just **** off and stick to the xbox tbqfh!

If you have friends who have xbox its amazing as you can talk to them, achievements are nice, if you have an xbox it's awesome to use the same account and build up achievements on your PC.

If you don't have an xbox it's a waste of time I'll admit.

Agree with this fully. Microsoft trying to consolise PC's, *** off.

Must admit the DLC worked pretty flawlessly for me.

I reinstalled Fallout 3 as I haven't played it in a while, and all my saves were still there. Upon signing into LIVE ingame, I was told there was an update which it promptly installed. I could then click Downloads, and there was a button which took me to the Marketplace. I already had points (As I have a 360), so I clicked Buy, it downloaded (Took about 15 mins), and installed on its own. And when I launched the game it said New Content Found. :D

After loading up an old save and wandering around for about 5 mins I got this mysterious radio signal... :p

I was pretty impressed with the whole experience to be honest. I'm still not too keen on the Marketplace app, mainly because it's ugly and a bit sluggish, but I hope this'll be fixed. This was pretty much my only gripe.
