Will the Zalman ZM-MFC1 Fan Controller be fine for the Delta 120mms, ie power wise, will it be enough power for them?

Also, if I cut the Delta down to half the rpm, is the db level and cfm linear? or are there major fall offs. Hoping to achieve a 30-40db with 90cfm (half power) that can be put up higher in summer etc.
 
i am also very interested in this, i have read a few things, but don't actually know much, and never seem to determine much from various googles. I took it that the db level and cfm levels would be fairly linear but i have never really thought of it i guess, not in that way, anyone know anything? surely the two go hand in hand? but then without the power will the delta function the same if it is purely designed for high speeds?
 
The Zalman ZM-MFC1 is 7 watts per channel.

It depends which Delta's you get, a quick google suggests some are 5.5w others are much more.

Edit - the ones overclockers sell are 24 watts so no. There is only 1 fan control I know that I would trust. The Sunbeam Rheobus Extreme is 6 channels at 30w each.

I'm using a small akasa I bought from here and it has no trouble with my scythe ninja rev b cpu cooler and 2 X 12cm nexus.

yeah but i'm talking about these, and these are hardly some nexus fans are they? seems most of the nexus's i have seen have been silent case fans, not 190cfm, 4000rpm, 59dBA beast fans! :P slight difference between the two types of fan really, the nexus is built to be silent and ok performing, where as the deltas are raw powerful, brute force type fans i guess lol :D i want some!
 
You could use a Lamptron FC-2 - 45w per channel! :D , if you can find one.

I think someone on here has one, not sure if it's clone.

I'm running 3 x Xigmatek 120mm XLF-F1253 1500RPM fans on one channel on my zalman, not quite the same though.

edit- ah says in the review i read "Couldn't effectively control the two models of Delta fans we used with it."

If you are buying 120mm delta's get the EFB1212SHE, still 150CFM but a mere 9.6watts and .8amps which most motherboard 3pin headers can cope with (I know all Asus P35/P45 boards handle this)... you can then use the BIOS or Speedfan to control the fans and wont need a fan controller
 
Well I'm looking to run it off the Zalman controller so not sure what I'll be getting yet. The 1900rpm scythe look alright and I think should be ok for the zalman, though maybe the new Nocturna fans might be worth looking at.

haha i don't yet, i was and am planning too though :P but on a controller i think that is will be fine lol, i want to see how well the fan will perform, if it is a good performer and the temps are good then the noise may be worth is :p

Id agree with this, run 5 in my rig, 3 of the new pwm models (2 on a TRUE) 1 exhaust, and 2 sandard 2000 rpm models as intakes of a fan controller.

unless you need extreme airflow the deltas are overkill, can get fans with highish airflow flow and a LOT less noise
 
Delta's are fine as long as you can controll the RPM at high RPM they are ofcourse very loud however at 1000RPM or so they are no louder than a standard 120mm at similar speed

because you may well need the extra power when the rig is under load.. I ran delta's off my motherboard headers as stated above and therefore RPM was automatically controlled via speedfan... so silent rig when browsing etc... but if I wanted to run bench marks etc.. then I had the extra power..

As mentioned above Delta's generate very high static pressures meaning that they can force more airflow through tight fin heatsinks such as the TRUE... this makes them more effective at Low RPM than standard fans as they retain more static pressure.

Yes, but they'll never be as quiet as other quiet fans even at lower rpms owing to their motor design.

That said, someone who could handle having a delta running at even 7v probably couldn't notice the difference :p

well having run a variety of delta's and normal "quiet" case fans I can assure you that Delta's at 1000RPM are not going to be herd over your hdd... there is a slight difference in the sound but I notice my yateloons running at 1000RPM more than I do the Delta's..

Just a common misconception that "OMG Deltas are loud" yes they are at full RPM but at low RPM unless you sit with your case open and your ear next to the fans you arent going to tell the difference
 
Totally ageee with pneumonic, i used to run 5 standard sharkoon silent eagle 2000 rpm fans of a fan controller, ive since switched to 3 sharkoon silent eagle 400-2000 rpm pwm fans on my true black, 2 in push pull and 1 exhaust, all controled by the mobo, and 2 standard 3 pin 2000 rpm silent eagles as intakes in my case (1 in a kama bay) controlled by an akasa junior fan controller. my rig is virtually silent, even with theese high powered fans, i just dial them down, but when i need the extra cooling i know its there, the loudest component in my rig now is my samsung 320 gb f1 hdd, which is a very quiet drive.
