Fan filters...how much effect on airflow?

As title really, how much an effect do filters have on the airflow from case fans? Cut in half/third/quarter or whatever?

Got a couple of 80mm intakes but the inside of the case is getting too dusty so I'm thinking about putting filters on them. But concerned that would cut too much airlflow. The fans I've got are 19dB/21CFM only as it is, so can't really afford to cut that I imagine.....

I don't really want to have to get higher cfm fans, for noise reasons, just to keep the same airflow in the case.

Use a stretched pair of tights... impacts airflow a lot less than a regular filter. You get to go wear them before you put them in too, and how many opportunities does a man truly get to wear black tights? Not enough I say!

Richdog, Any recommendations on denier? I'm running a 120mm Akasa fan, and I'm wondering whether I should go for a 15 or 50 denier? What do you think? Any brand recommendations? I was looking at Pretty Polly, but I hear they tend to ladder on fitting.

lol! Umm... i'd love to be able to answer that but to be quite frank I have no idea. However after a quick Google, I quite like the look of the Pretty Pollys, i'm not sure about laddering, but they seem like they'd give your jewels room to breathe. Oh wait yes... dust filters... they look fine for that too. :o

Do you think I'd get any funny looks if I went into somewhere like M&S and asked to try out their different ranges??

But on a serious note, are they actually any good for filtering the air? And how much impact would they have on airflow?

LOL the olde tights raise their silky smooth breathable head again.

Yeah the tights are good but I sometimes get to wear them on my head.....but thats another story

Depending on where you buy your gear the guy selling you the hardware could be wearing virtual tights... ;)

Thus leading to the age old saying "at least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask/tights" lol :)

Lol, I think security would be paying special attention to you in M&S l

Grab a pair and pop them over your head, you'll see they're very easy to breathe through so the fans in your system will just lov'em.

Better to send the bettter half or the gf or sis in to buy them and well worth the few bob to get rid of the fluff bunnies ;)

Although the current view is to go for black, do you think using a paler colour may be better, because it would show up the trapped dust? My case is in a bronze colour, so I may go for a mink or flesh colour.

Also, what about lycra, does this provide any advantage over other weaves?

"Hello Miss M&S Assistant. Can you show me to the tights please, I'd like to try and breathe through a few pairs. You know, just to see how they compare"

lol

:p

But at least you know they're all here together in one place and not out worrying the real world. I mean, it's not like anyone would really go to M&S and try that would they?

Or would they???
