Sorry if this topic is raised somewhere else on the forum but I looked thoroughly and could not find an answer to my issue anywhere. I purchased a H70 and used the stock fans for a while and powered these using the 3 pin onboard fan power sockets and these worked but were very noisy at high speeds. I have recently upgraded to the gentle typoon 4250rpm fans but I cannot get either to power using the onboard fan sockets. I have used both the Y split cable and individually but same issue arises neither fan will spin. If I use the 4 pin molex connectors they spin so fast it's like being at heathrow airport. I need to get them powered preferably by the 3 or 4 pin onboard sockets so I can control the speeds of the fans. I have used the bios to manually power them without luck. I am using an Asus board with on i7 970 processor. Any help getting these powered would be appreciated. I have just ordered a fan controller but these us the 3 or 4 pin onboard fan socket cables.

As long as i can use these fans with low noise and good performance I will be happy.

I appreciate ANY help anyone can give.

Thanks

These fans pull over an amp on startup each. Your board probably cant handle that current and the overcurrent protection disables the power.

Get a fan controller

I have used a 3 pin adapter which connects to my psu and I have the same issue they do not spin. If I use the molex connection directly they run at full power so I am unsure if it is power related from the motherboard. Does the 3 pin connectors have power restrictions?

Still Not Working

Ok, i have purchased and fitted a fan controller now but i am still suffering with the same issues no power using the 3 pin adapters only molex directly to the psu. I have read the packaging and it has stated you need to plug it into a 4 pin connector but the connectors attached to the fans are two 4-pin molex connectors (1 male, 1 female) and a 3-pin fan header. My issue has been discussed here http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/1041659-gentle-typhoon-ap30-4250-rpm-power.html but i do not understand what i need to do to get power to my fans using my fan controller or motherboard.

Can anyone help me please even if it is only suggestions as i have tried everything.

Sorry forgot to add incase it is important this is the fan controller i am using http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cit-4-...-81d5-a25372d2e3d7&istItemId=qixtqqi&istBid=t .

It could be that the fan controller you bought can't provide enough current to start those ridiculously fast and noisy fans. The high street store you got it from typically doesn't give any detail about its current capabilities.

Cheap controllers like the CIT are probably designed for normal fans if the 100-200mA range and not Scythe's power hungry 'gentle' typhoon.

I can't figure why you bought them when in the op you complained about the H70 stock fans being noisy. Were you hoping for some magical property of the fan to somehow become quiet? They are serious performance fans that even start up loud. Get some Apaches or Vipers.

Thanks for the advise. Can you recommend any that can handle the power demand i require? And they were noisy but the main reason I upgraded was to lower my CPU temps as I was hitting 40 idle with the stock. And I have only over clocked it to 4ghz where people are stating they are getting 30 with these fans and they are reviewed to be quieter so that's reason for the purchase.

Lamptron are supposed to be good at handling power. Make sure you have >24w / 2 Amps for safety sake.

i have changed my fan controller to a Lamptron FC-2. This should enable each channel with power upto 45w which is way more than i need. it comes with 3 molex inputs all 3 of which have there own connection to the psu and are shared by nothing else. Same issue no power. The controller appears to be working as one of my case fans do spin with connected to the controller as i did this to test.

Has anybody got any ideas as im currently running these fans using the 4 pin molex connectors and this is getting rather annoying as the noise is bad.

Thanks

Have u tried turning the knobs on the controller to max when starting the pc ? this should be the same as running straight off the psu and once the pc has started up and the fans are spinning u can turn them down to where u want them, i run 10 GT's off that controller on 5 channels using y connectors and it starts them even at 50% speed and i have only got 2 12v molex leads powering the controller, my GT's are the AP-15 (1850rpm) ones tho and will require less current to start up.

yes i have tried all channels on max. Same problem. Could the fan controller be faulty?? My H70 stock fans will not spin either unless the knobs are 1/2 turned and the 120mm case fan (factory fitted nothing powerful) needs around the same. I would like to use the Y cable so i can control both fans together however getting them to work as standard has proven more trouble than its worth.

Can't find too much info or pics on the cables but it seems it has a 4 pin molex and a 3 pin pwm, no expert but i think the power needs to go into the molex and the 3 pin is just for an rpm reading (plz correct me if i am wrong) so u could try a 4 pin molex to 3 pin pwm adapter to power them.

i agree that the 3 pin is the sensor only to control the RPM of the fan. I have also discussed this issue here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=19670941&posted=1#post19670941 as i was unsure which topic to put the post under so i did both to be safe. I have determined with the help of you all (Thank you) that the fans can only be powered via molex, however i do not understand how to connect this to my fan controller and still be able to control the RPM of my fans.

On my other post, instructions have been left by Black Bat, but i do not understand how to implement these into my system.

U can get a molex - pwm adapter.
What u need is a 4 pin male molex to 3 pim female pwm adapter for each fan and then use y splitters, just google em, i needed one for my pump to connect that to my FC2 but in the end i just made one.

i have found a cable now with only red and black wires no yellow. it has a 4 pin molex one side and 3 pin female the other. Is this what i need to power it using my fan controller??

If it has a male molex and a female pwm ans both red and black wires then yes, u will need 2 and then a y splitter to put them both on 1 channel if thats what u want.
Post a pic if u can.

Yes that is what it is. I have tried to upload the image and it will not work but it exactly how you have previously described it. The H70 came with a Y splitter so hopefully that will work. Thank you to all for your help and i will post shortly when my new ones arrive to confirm it is all working.
