So, realistically, we’ll be getting more of the same.

But, in a perfect world, what new products/features would you like to see announced or showcased at CES and beyond in 2020?


Mine’s a little lame, but I have a bit of a Razer fetish. I have all Razer peripherals, even the chroma speakers, and would love to get hold of a Razer monitor to match.
However, the only one that exists is a 27 inch, and I’d absolutely love to see a 34 inch ultra wide.


Would also be great to at least see some concept designs for OLED monitors. Right now if you want OLED it’s a 55 inch tv minimum, which is plain silly.

Also, not exactly a monitor feature, but directly related, I’m assuming the new generation of GPUs will have the newer HDMI standard to output 4K at high refresh rates. That’s a given though, right?

What are you guys looking out for?

Did you mean VESA DisplayHDR 1000? 'HDR10' support can be very weak indeed, without an appropriate colour gamut or contrast performance being required. There are already models out there or very soon will be ticking the 'HDR10' box that are 144Hz UltraWides with 3440 x 1440 resolution and under £800. The AOC CU34G2X and Nixeus NX-EDG34(S) come to mind, so if that's all you're after you're in luck. :)

No and this was why I brought it up. You just said "HDR10" which is pretty meaningless in terms of capability. All HDR capable monitors are going to respond to 'HDR10' content as a minimum. The UltraWide models I mentioned are below even the minimum VESA DisplayHDR standard (VESA DisplayHDR 400), but they still respond to HDR10 content.

With regards to that LG27GL850, are you aware of any newer revisions coming, which will have an improved contrast ratio?

Or any 21.9 29" monitors that will perform similarly to it?

Not currently. Although LG have a 240Hz 2560 x 1440 'Oxide Panel' (pretty much bezel-free) planned for later this year which supports VESA DisplayHDR 600 (https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/lg-display-latest-panel-development-plans-dec-2019/). InnoLux have a new 165Hz-capable IPS-type panel on the way as well (M270KCJ-K7B(Cx)) to replace the one used in the Gigabyte AORUS line and some other models. They're also working on a 240Hz version with VESA DisplayHDR 600 support.
 
Cool, might be worth holding out to see how they are then, thanks.

Wish they would stop focusing on refresh rates though, 144HZ is plenty and put the money saved into better QC, investing in other areas to help with blacks/contrast ratio + better HDR support or sell the monitors on for a cheaper price.....
 
Surprised that some want less than 4k. New gen consoles around the corner, which will push 4K gaming as a baseline for the peasants. Wouldn't want to be using a PC with lower resolution than a console at that point.
 
Realistically I would like to see a 40" or 43" 21:9 OLED 120Hz HDR monitor of "4k" res

Chances are that will be 2025 the way monitor manufacturers are drip feeding us.
 
I know what I would like to see will never happen. I would like to see a 16:9 monitor 4k high refreshish rate that is larger than 32" and smaller than 43", possibly 38" as i think 43" is too large for 50 cm distance i will be sitting at? Just got an ultrawide and trying to convince my self it's worth it but pc is now plugged to my 4k tv :P

I also would like them to take a look at fixing all the issues the backlight tech comes with rather than adding even higher than 144hz. And for god sakes drop the price.

There is no gpu atm that can do for example 4k 144hz, unless you play very old games.

Never seen anything higher than 75hz so not sure how going from that to a 360hz monitor it would feel, and a lot of gamers out there say the difference from 100hz to 144 is minimal.

Last thing perhaps I would love to see is an OLED or non backlight tech that is approachable price wise. That would be awesome.
 
Good quality control. Same stuff that's out now, but with good quality control and not having to run a gauntlet everytime you buy one and hope it's not full of issues.

Also 24/25" 144hz 1440p ips monitors.

This shouldn’t have to be on a ‘fantasy’ list!!

What a sad indictment of the state of monitors right now :(

If you consider with a TV you can get a 55inch OLED, low input lag, and g-sync compatible for just over a grand, and QC will be as it should be.
 
As mentioned above good quality control :D

Would love something around the 28" size with the image quality of my Dell U2913WM but higher contrast combined with the performance of my S2716DG and at least 120Hz at 1440p.
