Are CO2 .177 pellet firing pistols illegal?

I ask because the police were speaking to a friend and they happened to notice his Walther CP99 CO2 pistol in his room. Now, it looks very realistic but I'm sure the power is within legal limits. They took it away and destroyed it with no compensation.

As long as it wasn't firing above the 6ft/lb power limit for pistols then no it shouldn't be. Plenty of people have the gun you mention and haven't had any problems.

are the Cops allowed to do that? dont they need a warrant to remove anything from your household?

We've had the cops round here before, when our window got smashed, the cop said you should get an airgun, at which i mentioned i had one, he just laughed.

Heck, i have a more lethal weapon under my bed, my compound bow, , if it was on display, would they confescate (sp) that for being dangerous? =/

Back to the OP however!, I too am after some replica rifles for a film. Ideally they need to be assault rifles that cycle like a real one. ejection of shells isnt necessary. a grenade launcher is optional. Remember these are just for props, but need to look highly detailed etc.
